From internationally bestselling author John Boyne, a contemplative story about one man trying to move forward from the trauma of his youth to become a better father to his son. Being in limbo, 30,000 feet in the air, offers time to reflect and take stock. For Aaron Umber, it's an opportunity to connect with his 14-year-old son as they travel halfway across the world to meet a woman who isn't expecting them. Unsettled by his past, and anxious for his future, Aaron is at a crossroads in life. The damage inflicted upon him during his youth has made him the man he is, but now threatens to widen the growing fissures between him and his only child. This trip could bind them closer together, or tear them further apart. In this penetrating examination of action and consequence, fault and attribution, acceptance and resolution, John Boyne gives us a redemptive story of a father and a son on a moving journey to mend their troubled lives.

Oh I loved it. The perfect ending of the Elements series. Maybe not that traumatic but at least as moving. This is the story of Aaron who travels either his 14 years old son from Australia to the small Irish island where it all started. What a read 💝

Lesliereadsalot What‘s your email Barbara? I‘ve rounded up a bunch of names for #Europacollective and I‘m thinking about a post about Gabriele for June. 6d

Suet624 @BarbaraBB I had no idea that was your job! I thought you were a mental health counselor!! 5d
BarbaraBB @Suet624 Wow, no I am not that smart. Communications is much easier 😉 5d
Suet624 @BarbaraBB I remember a post from years ago where you were sitting in a small office-like setting and you said you were waiting for your next client. My daughter and her wife are both therapists and I must‘ve jumped to that conclusion. 5d
BarbaraBB @Suet624 That‘s funny! I can‘t remember the photo but I do use the word clients indeed for the people I work for. Maybe that‘s not the right word? In Dutch we have a word for people-who-give-you-the-assignment and I thought the English ‘client‘ was the best translation… 5d
Suet624 Client is definitely the right word. I just jumped to a conclusion. 4d

Absolutely loved it and a fitting end to a truly brilliant series , elements are 4 of the best books Iv ever read ! Not my fav but ties everything up perfectly & not as shocking as the other 3 and dare I say a “happier” ending. A whole series which brilliantly captures the trauma inflicted on people by a handful of others , I urge everyone to read them

#WeeklyForecast 20/25

An exciting reading week ahead! I just started Time of the Flies, which drew me in immediately. Next will be the tagged, which I can‘t wait to read either. I hope to start Theory & Practice as well, recommended by @sarahbarnes , and if there‘s time left I might even start Audition, out first #CampLitsy25 read (not on photo).

sarahbarnes Great week ahead! Can‘t wait to hear what you think of T&P and Flies! 💕 2w
Lesliereadsalot Ooh…so lucky you have Air! 2w
Gleefulreader I have Time of the Flies on my TBR shelf. I can‘t wait for Air but my copy has to ship to Canada from Blackwells and I‘m praying there isn‘t a postal strike to delay delivery! 2w
BarbaraBB @Gleefulreader I was surprised how fast I got Air, but I am in Europe. Also, Time of the Flies is great so far! 2w

A fabulous final book in the Elements series. Not covering as distressing / upsetting scenarios as in the other three books, but wrapping up and linking the other stories together. Another propulsive read - inhaled it in about an hour.

Thanks to @TrishB for letting me know that this had been published and, if hubby said yesterday ‘I‘m ordering something from Amazon, do you need anything?‘ , then it‘s not me spending money on books, is it?! 🤣

quietlycuriouskate Infallible logic, Helen! 😆 3w
TrishB Definitely not you 👍🏻 it wrapped it up well didn‘t it. 3w
AmyG Oooo I can‘t wait to read this one. 3w

Last one in the series- not quite as traumatic as others, but revisits some past characters and ties up the stories.
These have been incredible, dark and emotional reads.

BarbaraBB I had no idea it had been published already! 3w
TrishB @BarbaraBB neither did I - it was in Waterstones when I got there yesterday and I had to read straight away! 3w
Prairiegirl_reading None of them are published in Canada. I believe they‘ll be released as one book some time in the fall. 3w

Prairiegirl_reading I had to go check, it‘s September 9. Another to add to my 2025 tbr! 3w
peaKnit I think it will be issued in the US as one book with the 4 parts. I bought and read Water and then was able to get the whole series “Elements” through NetGalley. Fantastic full circle. Wow! 💗 this author. 3w
squirrelbrain Gah! I missed this was even out! I got the other 3 as ARCs but not this one. 🤷‍♀️ 3w
TrishB @Prairiegirl_reading well worth a read! 3w
TrishB @peaKnit cool 👍🏻 3w
TrishB @squirrelbrain I was really surprised when I saw it in Waterstones and thought it was just me that had missed it! 3w
