I decided that I needed to read this book after some of the decisions this summer, in particular the de facto non-decision on the 14th amendment‘s protection of birthright citizenship. It was well worth it.

With the deep dive I‘ve made into politics this year I have found the Supreme Court interests me the most. Considered & designed to be the weakest of the branches, Litman carves a narrative that shows how the Court is usurping power for itself. The implications are more terrifying than one might think.
I discovered Litman‘s book through her Strict Scrutiny Podcast.(https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/strict-scrutiny/id1469168641) Check it out!

I‘m not a big fan of the outrage style approach, but constitutional law expert and Supreme Court watcher Litman really knows her stuff. I love her podcast, Strict Scrutiny, and her book is very good, too. I learned a lot! Not all the pop culture references worked for me, but I do think it makes the book more accessible.

I shouldn‘t have laughed out loud because it‘s not REALLY funny, but… #lawless #scotus #badvibes #leahlitman #americanpsycho

This is all so spot-on that it‘s painful. It still feels so surreal that we live in a world where the highest court in the land rules not in the interest of justice, but at the whims of a petty wannabe-dictator. 🫠#lawless #scotus #leahlitman #badvibesindeed

While I could‘ve done without the unrelenting pop culture references, this look at the current Supreme Court and their polarizing decisions made for a fascinating listen. I am not a regular listener of the Strict Scrutiny podcast but I will be now.
