Georgiana Darcy's Diary
Georgiana Darcy's Diary: Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice Continued | Anna Elliott, Laura Masselos
4 posts | 12 read | 7 to read
Mr. Darcy's younger sister searches for her own happily-ever-after...The year is 1814, and it is springtime at Pemberley. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy have married. But now a new romance is in the air, along with high fashion, elegant manners, scandal, deception, and the wonderful hope of a true and lasting love. Shy Georgiana Darcy has been content to remain unmarried, living with her brother and his new bride. But Elizabeth and Darcy's fairy-tale love reminds Georgiana daily that she has found no true love of her own. And perhaps never will, for she is convinced the one man she secretly cares for will never love her in return. Georgiana's domineering aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, has determined that Georgiana shall marry, and has a list of eligible bachelors in mind. But which of the suitors are sincere, and which are merely interested in Georgiana's fortune? Georgiana must learn to trust her heart--and rely on her courage--for she also faces the return of the man who could ruin her reputation and spoil a happy ending, just when it finally lies within her grasp.

This was a surprising delight. I had a very low bar going in after Mary B, especially since this was free when I got it (and it still is, #pemberlittens!) But Elliott was clear from the outset that she knew she wasn‘t a match for Austen‘s skill and that‘s why she chose the diary approach. The storyline was enjoyable and the characters felt true to the original story to me.

HOTPock3tt Where can we get it for free? 😱I love Georgiana! ♥️🤗 @janeycanuck (edited) 4y
janeycanuck @HOTPock3tt I got it years ago for free on Kindle. I‘ve since shifted to Kobo and it‘s definitely there for free so it‘s likely still on Kindle for free. 4y

A light and fluffy book not the greatest P&P follow up, but fun. I like the idea that Georgiana and C. Fitzwilliam are meant to be together and if you agree, you might like this book. A nice side story with cousin Anne and a fun side plot with Aunt dB that involves a French aristocrat. Perhaps my biggest issue is the gay character, not that he‘s in the book but that he admits he‘s gay. Pretty sure he would not have risked his life that way.

GlassAsDiamonds Haven‘t read the book but agree with the assessment - I‘d really like it if authors could remember their history before they have characters admitting to what was a death penalty “crime” at the time...(odd correlation in a somewhat earlier time period but while it minimizes it, The Gentleman‘s Guide to Vice and Virtue does at least comment that homosexuality at the time was a life or death admission). 7y
iread2much @GlassAsDiamonds I agree! I don‘t expect the history to be perfect, but I feel like you can‘t just throw out a gay character and not do your research. I would love a P&P adaption they focuses on the hidden life of a LGBT character, but it would need to historically accurate 7y
