Bryn Reyes is a real life sleeping beauty. Afflicted with Klein-Levin Syndrome, she suffers episodes of prolonged sleep that steal weeks, and sometimes even months, from her life. But unlike most KLS patients, she doesnt spend each episode in a catatonic state or wake up with no recollection of the time shes missed. Instead, Bryn spends half her life in an alternate reality made up of her memories. For Bryn, the past is a place, until one day a boy shes never met before washes up on the illusory beach of her dreams with no memory of who he is. But the appearance of this strange boy isnt the only thing thats changed. Bryns symptoms are worsening, her body weakening as shes plagued by hallucinations even while awake. Her only hope of finding a cure is to undergo experimental treatment created by a German specialist. But when Dr. Banz reveals that he knows more about her strange symptoms than he originally let on, Bryn learns that the boy in her head might actually be the key to understanding whats happening to her, and worse, that if she doesnt find out his identity before its too late, they both may not survive.

Pickpick

Huh. I actually liked it better this time! Still not a full 4 stars (because when I rate a book I always compare it to other books I have rated similarly ?) but enough over 3 stars that it's a "pick" and not a "so-so". Interesting circumstances, both with a rare real-life disease which is quite peculiar on its own, and then gets more so with strange occurrences. There is some romance but it's steeped in strangeness and tension so it's not sappy.

This was my review for this book when I first read it last year... but I haven't been able to stop thinking about it and when I saw the sequel, I decided to give this another go 😅

Bookzombie 😂 Hopefully the sequel will be a pick! 7y

Book 1 of a quadrilogy. Bryn Reyes has Klein-Levin Syndrome, having episodes of prolonged sleep in which she is neither comatose nor catatonic. Her state is more like lucid dreaming based on her memories but in an alternate reality. Sweet story. KLS is a real thing, but the rest is fiction. On to book 2!

Oh, pffft ??
The story that had sounded so intriguing was just coasting along, feeling a bit dispersed and unfocused, and then just when it started feeling like it kind of found a direction, just when I was building up to something... it ended. And it had me saying "oh, come ON!" out loud ?I know the cliff hanger is a traditional manipulation tool, but it was not right here IMO. Interesting premise, so-so execution.

2.5⭐ If you read the plot description and find it interesting, don't mind lack of depth and engaging writing, and want an easy read, then this book would be a solid pick, otherwise, pass on it. I received this book free through the Kindle First program, but it did not affect my review. See my full review on Goodreads or Amazon.

The story sounds interesting in theory, but so far it's just kind of chugging along and it has failed to make me feel much other than sad. A bit boring; and confusing but not in that suspenseful way that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Just a bit all over the place. I hope it gets better.

Was feeling kind of blah and uninspired and couldn't decide what to read. After picking up a book and then putting it back, then repeating the same several times, I decided to browse through my vast Kindle TBR shelf, and settled on this. So far, so good.
What do you reach for when nothing sounds good?

asiriusreader My go to is usually a fast-paced thriller or mystery to break me out of any kind of slump. Hope this one does it for you! 8y
RealLifeReading Comics! Especially something short and funny like 8y
bookishkai I usually just start and set aside multiple books until something finally sticks. 8y

Elisa @asiriusreader thanks, I hope so too 😬🤞🏼 8y
Elisa @RealLifeReading oh, that's a good idea! Next time I'll go to the English bookstore and see what they have available. I don't have any comics/graphic novels on my home TBR shelf because I grab the ones I want to read and devour them right away. Current favorite: Saga! (edited) 8y
Elisa @bookishkris hahaha, so more or less what I'm doing, then 😄 8y
