Pickpick

Book 4. Finished “My Lady Ludlow”, the second country life novel in “The Cranford Chronicles “ book. This one was very slow for me, but full of little heart warming and heart wrenching gems Gaskell writes so well.

Mehso-so

I love Elizabeth Gaskell. She has such range, from the gentle humour and heartbreak of Cranford to the great social issues of Ruth or North & South to the unfinished masterpiece of Wives & Daughters. And yet all of this was lacking in My Lady Ludlow which is strangely lifeless and dull. It didn't help that the library's copy was full of typos (helpfully corrected by an earlier reader!)
