Meh- this #KindleUnlimited title wasn‘t the mystery/thriller I was hoping for... it‘s a straightforward story with the main twist easily predictable... There are a few surprises but not many. I never felt all that connected to the characters but the audio performance is well done. I just never found musket all that anxious to get back to this #BookSetByWater. #FebruaryFeels #AudioColoring
Was listening to this as an audiobook. I can't stand the person who's reading it or the main character. Something interesting did happen but I just can't deal with the book anymore. Bail.
Okay, just listened to two more chapters while driving to work. Little bit of a twist. Slightly interested again.
Starting this one on audio. I've seen mixed reviews on it so I guess we'll see what happens. 😊
Thank you Net Galley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a good suspense/murder mystery set in the Cornwall region. Ellie, our protagonist, witnessed a brutal murder as a child. Now 25, she is faced with confronting her missing memories of that day as another murder occurs in her town. I figured out who the killer is before the reveal, but really enjoyed the pace and characters here, mainly Ellie. 👍🏻
I think listening to rather than reading this helped the story. The narrator sounded a little like Jane Horrocks, the actress best known (to me) as Bubble on Absolutely Fabulous (pictured). I liked the idea of Bubble telling me this story! The narration made it more suspenseful. This wasn't reinventing the mystery novel, but I didn't guess the resolution, so I think that's a successful thriller. #audiobook
Lunchtime listening! I'm getting to the good part. I think I know who the killer is, but I'm not sure yet. I'm not trying to figure it out, just enjoying the story. I like the narrator on this one. #audiobook
I guessed very early on who the killer was which is always a huge let down. I swear I only end up finishing the book so I can know that I was right and feel justified in my rightness. When the big climactic scene finally comes, there was just no excitement. The motivation for the string of murders was weak too and I was holding onto my last hope, thinking maybe that would provide something unique.
