Now, how can one possibly review their favorite book after reading it for the 1st time? REAL favorite book. Not “books I love” or “series I adore & want everyone to enjoy”. My FAVORITE book. Part of me. This book reminded me of who I am.

All that aside, it‘s far too underrated. Brilliant & inventive story, beautiful & thoughtful prose— perfect for those who love mythology, folklore, & find beauty in the macabre. I urge you to stack it & read it.

Suet624 I just saw the quotes you posted and it sounds intriguing. Stacked! 5y
Jess_Franzino @Suet624 Yay! It‘s so beautiful and thought provoking. I hope you love it as much as I did! I‘m going to read the 2nd book of the trilogy soon. SO happy it‘s a trilogy ♥️ 5y

The reason why it‘s taken me nearly a week to finish this glorious book, is because I keep stopping to copy down quotes and reflect on them ♥️

And now my “soulbook” is just going to go right ahead and make an Orpheus allusion like it‘s not ALREADY page after page of everything I love. 😍

And now my “soulbook” (like a soulmate, but it book form...just made it up), is just going to quote one of my favorite poems and have a character reflect on it in a journal entry using a handwriting font.

“...The food of the dead and the gods both. Of course, the dead and the gods are so similar, are they not? After enough time, the line between ancestor and deity blues, and gods are born.”

Despite having majored I‘m Funeral Home Management & studying both classics and mythology; I JUST learned that ancient cultures preserved their dead in honey!

Also, stack this book. For real. It deserves SO much love! 💖

I adore when books use handwriting for letters! Also, I‘m surprised more people on Litsy haven‘t read this book yet! I‘m still at the beginning, and already it‘s utterly enchanting and the writing is gorgeous!

This is an eerie atmospheric ghost story with quite a few mythological elements woven throughout. I loved it even more the second time around but found it less scary and more intriguing. The town of Lichport's quirkiness really comes to life and I think the job of Undertaker is pretty cool and Silas is an interesting character.
The Death Watch is a must-read especially for this time of year.
