I didn't expect to love this book so much but it managed to fit a lot of of awesomeness in such a short book for the Fantasy genre and I am impressed and intrigued enough to binge read this series which had been sitting on my iPad for quite some time.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This doesn't read like a debut novel nor a run of the mill YA fantasy. It is well thought out, well written, cohesive, has clarity and depth of characters and plot.
It was all I was hoping for and more. This feels like the fruits of a story that had time to percolate within the author's mind so that when it was put to paper it had already matured and was ready to be devoured and appreciated and boy oh boy did I enjoy this magical book.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

This is a debut novel and it reads like one. It's clunky and not very well executed and the main character is indecisive but the plot and the imagination behind it are pretty cool. The magic system is awesome and the lore is also interesting. The romance was boring and felt forced and totally unnecessary. I still think this had the potential to be really good and I'm curious to see where the story takes us in the sequel.

After a rocky start where I struggled to come to terms with a writing style that grated on my nerves, I Fell in love with this story with a love story of epic propotions and a touch of the magical at the heart of it.
I loved the setting and the lore and I fell in love with Barsalyya Shefali and O-Shizuka. I love how we got to watch their relationship grow!
This was an emotional roller coaster of a book and I really enjoyed it.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was so hesitant to read this because it didn't sound like something I would like but I ended up really enjoying this read. I love the friendships in this book and the loyalty between the main characters. The characters seem real because they are still flawed. I love the magic system.

A richly imagined world with bloodwood assassins and classical races of people with different names of course and a quest for 'magical' items. This book is basically introducing the characters and their roles but was filled with lots of intrigued and mystery and Battle scènes. I really enjoyed this read and I can't wait to see how it all progresses in the sequel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sooo many mixed feelings about this one but while I didn't like the Insta- love situation, I loved the way the fairies or fair folk are portrayed in this book... Dark and twisted without the ability to even comprehend human emotions and their sick twisted games they play on unsuspecting humans.
I enjoyed that aspect of it very much. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a gem of a book. I loved the mashup of magic and reality whilst touching on a very awful unforgettable, painful time in history. In an age where racial tensions are once again at a highpoint the message in this book is clear...Don't accept racial crimes or turn a blind eye so as not to be complicit. Stand up for what you know in your depths of your heart is right.

Leuk boekje maar er was weinig 'actie' . De schrijfstijl beviel me wel en had iets sprookjesachtig. Ik ben echt wel benieuwd naar hoe het verhaal verder gaat ontwikkelen dus ik lees zeker de opvolging.

I really enjoyed this read! I've always loved Fantasy with an exotic feel and this one with Daevas, Djinns Ifrits and other magical races fits the bill. I loved the way Egypt was described and Daevabad and the Magic in this world. I got a lot of feels whilst reading and I appreciate that the romantic elements were kept to a minimum. The ending was epic and really set up for a great follow up so I can't wait to read the sequel.

I liked this story well enough and it was a quick read. The paranormal elements were like the backbone of the story and I loved the way it was written. Tori as a character is complex and troubled and self-hatms to deal with her anxietyand such so that's a trigger warning for that. The mystery was well done and wasn't resolved until the very end with a twist that I didn't see coming.

This book had such great potential but in the end it fell short of being phenomenal and was just Ok. I think more focus should have been on the villain; Yes we got a peek into his head and so leqrnt his motivations for killing and in such a fashion but hè still felt very much 'unknown' and I found myself really disliking the main character. Anyway, I enjoyed it but wasn't surprises or thrilled.

This is an eerie atmospheric ghost story with quite a few mythological elements woven throughout. I loved it even more the second time around but found it less scary and more intriguing. The town of Lichport's quirkiness really comes to life and I think the job of Undertaker is pretty cool and Silas is an interesting character.
The Death Watch is a must-read especially for this time of year.

I am speechless; simply in awe of how much fun I had reading this book. Mia as a character has grown in leaps and bounds and a lot of questions were answered but not all of them. The Gladiator styled battles were bloody just the way I like them. The romances were scorching and well written. The twists were many and the plot unpredictable. This is simply one one of the best sequels ever and one of the best books of 2017! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An interesting psychological thriller with an extremely unreliable character. I was intrigued by the general storyline and liked the twist but while I liked it, I didn't love it. I understood Estelle's neuroses and that she had been suffering from post partum depression which escalated due to the callousness of her hubby but I still felt disconnected to her.

I really wanted to love this but it was just Ok. Chaol ceased to be my favourite character a couple books ago and I was hoping to fall in love with him again and while he is less of an ass, I can't say that he's totally redeemed hinself either.
Also, this just read like one big setup for the finale and would have been fine as a novella rather than a full length novel.
