Paul, a religious teen living in a small conservative town, finds his world turned upside down when he meets Manuel—a young man who says he’s both Christian and gay, two things that Paul didn’t think could coexist in one person. Doesn’t the Bible forbid homosexuality? As Paul struggles with Manuel’s interpretation of the Bible, thoughts that Paul has long tried to bury begin to surface, and he finds himself re-examining his whole life. This is an unforgettable book on an extremely timely topic that strives to open minds on both ends of the spectrum.

I almost skipped over this book. I've been in queer studies for a while, and I thought it was just going to revisit all the arguments I've already come across. But in thinking of the people who don't get that prior understanding, the book offers an indepth look at the intersect between queerness and faith. It's littered with bible verses, critically considering more than just Sodom, and is well worth reading.

This is a great introduction to how religion and sexuality intersect. It ties in a bit of the protagonists Mexican heritage as well! Would recommend

Preach! This book has been on my tbr forever, mostly because there's not a ton of intersectionality in literature for gay people of faith. So I'm hopeful. And this book is full of little gems like this.

rjsthumbelina We were always preached at to "love the sinner, hate the sin" growing up, and this so nails why that's not appropriate! Totally need to read this 8y
kissxxmyxxconverse @rjsthumbelina it's good so far! It's sort of an intro to equality in faith. I'm not religious, but I grew up super conservative christian. This would've been a great resource to have! 8y
