Faith Unraveled
Faith Unraveled: How a Girl Who Knew All the Answers Learned to Ask Questions | Rachel Held Evans
5 posts | 15 read | 19 to read
How an evolving spiritual journey leads to an unshakeable faith Eighty years after the Scopes Monkey Trial made a spectacle of Christian fundamentalism and brought national attention to her hometown, Rachel Held Evans faced a trial of her own when she began to have doubts about her faith. In Faith Unraveled, Rachel recounts growing up in a culture obsessed with apologetics, struggling as her own faith unraveled one unexpected question at a time. In order for her faith to survive, Rachel realizes, it must adapt to change and evolve. Using as an illustration her own spiritual journey from certainty to doubt to faith, Evans challenges you to disentangle your faith from false fundamentals and to trust in a God who is big enough to handle your tough questions. In a changing cultural environment where new ideas seem to threaten the safety and security of the faith, Faith Unraveled is a fearlessly honest story of survival.

“If there‘s one thing I know for sure, it‘s that faith can survive just about anything, so long as it‘s able to evolve.” In this her first memoir, Rachel Held Evans shares with refreshing honesty how her Christian faith evolved from having all the answers to asking all the questions. I can relate much more to her earnest doubt than to the false certainty of those who claim to have the last word on God. So sad she is gone, but this book is a gift.

alysonimagines P.S. I love that the original title of this book shared the name of Evans‘ blog, Evolving in Monkeytown. 🐵 5y

Reading this after the author's death has made me mourn her loss all the more. It is hard to believe this fiercely intelligent, compassionate, brave woman is gone. I have no doubt her work will live on to influence and comfort questioning believers for years to come. But I am heartbroken that we don't get to hear more from her. Her thoughts are so similar to mine and her books are a balm to my soul when I am restless and doubting.

megnews I felt the same way when I read Amy Krouse Rosenthal. She had already passed and I felt so sorry I‘d never get to read anything else by her 5y

Fellow RHE fans, did you see this? Crazy. She's a bit younger than me, I think, her little boy is still pretty young... Really keeping her in my prayers! There is no more recent update.

CBee I saw this yesterday 😢 Hoping they can figure out what‘s wrong. She‘s wonderful. 6y
