Have a bookshelf? #putabirdonit

A lost cockatiel followed us home from the neighborhood pool on Friday evening. After a weekend of searching for his family, Stanley has returned home!

I know he only stayed with us for the weekend, but I miss the little bird already. This little cockatiel was a sweetheart that brightened up the whole house. I think I know which critter will be joining our menagerie next.

CoffeeCatsBooks Aww, it's sweet you guys took him in. 7y

Aseleener So glad Stanley made it back home. My husband has a cockatiel and he would be absolutely devastated if she ever got lost. He agrees with your choice of next pet. 😀 7y
Posemn I love this pic! And, serious question, how do you take care of a lost cockatiel for a weekend (in case I should ever have one follow me home?) I am pretty good with dogs but wouldn't know what to do for a cockatiel. This little bird is lucky you were the ones he followed home! 7y
KCorter @Aseleener We're glad Stanley was reunited with his family, but we already miss having a feathered friend. That little cockatiel stole everyone's hearts this weekend! We are already looking into adopting one of our own soon. 😊 7y
KCorter @Posemn Well, from what I can gather, I think the cockatiel had been looking for a human to help him all day. I passed one of my neighbors on the way to the pool, and he told us a cockatiel had sat with him at the pool for over an hour, but it flew away when he tried to take him home. After an hour or so, the bird found us at the pool and started calling to us (continued below). 7y
KCorter I went over and calmed him down. He was apparently a pet and seemed stressed out. After a few minutes of talking to him, he hopped on my shoulder and we slowly made our way home. I might have looked a little crazy cooing/clucking to a bird with three kids in tow behind me. 😅 We gave him a little basket on top of a bookshelf with a perch and some food/water. We didn't have birdseed, so I just gave him whatever nuts and seeds we had in the house. 7y
KCorter The cockatiel mainly ate the crackers and bread we offered. Apparently that is comfort food for birds as well. We posted signs around the neighborhood, I filed reports with local shelters and animal control, and a few private sites as well. I also posted to local lost/found groups on Facebook and Instagram. We met a few people over the weekend, but his owner finally found one of my social media posts on Sunday. Everyone had their happy ending. 😊 7y
Jinjer What a wonderful thing! 7y
Posemn Very nice @KCorter. I'll bet Stanley would love to come back to visit occasionally. 😉 He was treated like a king! 7y
