pickCant wait to reread this book with my almost 8-year old. Stella is an 11yo black girl in depression era North Carolina.Issues like the klan, segregation, poll taxes, and intimidation are dealt with an age appropriate manner but one that does not shirk from reality. Stella wants to write and keeps at it despite her difficulty with it. Her parents are wonderful characters and show her her value as a person. Rec the audio on hoopla. #1streadof2020
