#FirstBook2020 #nowreading

Every time I considered which book to start the year with, this one kept popping into my mind.

Happy New Year everyone!

One of my bookish goals this coming year is to read more poetry and books in verse.

My daughter's dance studio is putting on the ballet Le Corsaire this next summer based on a Lord Byron poem. Perhaps I'll give that a try.

Do you read poetry? What do you recommend?

xicanti For contemporary poets, I highly recommend Katherena Vermette, Vivek Shraya, and Marilyn Dumont. 5y
TheSpineView Lord Byron wrote numerous short poems which is a good place to start. Also you might try one of the Poem a Day collections. Then if you find a poet you like read more by them. 5y
LiteraryFeline @xicanti Thank you so much! I will definitely check them out. I have heard of Vermette, but haven't read her work yet. 5y
LiteraryFeline @TheSpineView Thank you! I signed up for a Poem a Day and look forward to reading those. I've read a bit of Lord Byron before, but it's been awhile. 5y
xicanti @LiteraryFeline she‘s phenomenal! My favourite of her books is 5y

#Two4Tuesday
1. All of the re-reading I did in 2019 was children's books (and a couple middle grade books) I read with my daughter. The most memorable was an old favorite of mine: Judy Blume's Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.

2. My favorite December read: The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter by Hazel Gaynor. I love Gaynor's writing and the way her words breathe life into her characters and the setting.

Thank you for hosting @TheSpineView!

TheSpineView Thanks for playing! Happy Tuesday! ❤ 5y

I received this beauty for Christmas. I can't wait to read it!

aartichapati Oh, that sounds cool! Is that poetry? 5y
LiteraryFeline It is poetry. I think it sounds cool too. I haven't read the author's previous work, but I had heard good things about it 5y

"I didn't scream." Suddenly the tears were an ugly waterfall, hot and gushing, and someone has to know after all this time, I had to tell someone. “He . . . Edwin made a mistake, you see, because I was so shocked that I stayed quiet, which misled him, so it was entirely my fault, you understand, that he . . . that he . . . because I didn‘t scream.” [pg 326, Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye

I treated myself to these four books, finally using up my e-book settlement money. They've been sitting in their box unopened for about a month or two now. I don't know why I tortured myself that way. Maybe in case I didn't get any books for Christmas, I would at least have these to open. But I did get books. Many books, and now I have these too! Yay!

So excited about the November #MyLitBox which arrived in today's mail! Looking forward to coloring with my new pencils in my new coloring book (I'm sure my 5 year old will demand I share). And I can't wait to read Nicola Yoon's The Sun Is Also A Star. [As you can see, my cat insisted I share too.]

Am I the only one who gets excited when an author remembers to include the little details in a book? Like making sure the cat has a litter box upon arriving to a new living space?

What better way to enjoy a Saturday morning than laying under my tree on such a beautiful day reading?

LivinginaLibrary What a gorgeous picture! Looks like a perfect morning. 8y
LiteraryFeline Thank you! It was perfect. I sit out there so rarely since it's our front yard, which is a shame. 8y
