It took me six weeks to get through it, and now I will go back and try to make sense of my notes. My slightly over-the-top August TBR. 🙈🙈🙈📚 Good news is that The Goldfinch and Moby-Dick are both read alongs that are more than one month in length. Bad news is that I still have 300 pages to go in The Magic Mountain 😬. I will finish it!

Lcsmcat Great TBR! I‘ve loved a lot of those. And you‘ll find The Magic Mountain speeds up as you near the end. Those last pages speed by! 5y

SharonGoforth @Lcsmcat Thanks! I‘m still in the middle of Naphta and Settembrini, and it‘s a little confusing trying to keep their philosophies straight. I really like the way Mann presents both points of view, though, and then bounces them off Hans Castorp as a sort of sounding board. 5y

Lcsmcat @SharonGoforth Their arguments do get eye crossing! Naphta in particular annoyed me, but things get really crazy between those two near the end. I think a clear idea of their philosophies is less important than the reaction of Hans, who bounces from idea to idea depending on who is influencing him at any given moment. 5y
