Pickpick

I saw the movie first, then wanted to read the book, hoping for clarity on the ending. If anything, I have more questions now. Both the book and (so fittingly) the movie feel as though they end abruptly, as if, in the end, none of it matters. If anything, this is a commentary on the absolute lack of sex education by the church. Surely that would have given this poor family a clue that something was amiss.

GingerAntics Although, I suppose it is also a commentary on the folly of taking physical attributes at birth as the authority on who a person actually is. #RobertHarris #Conclave #Audiobook #pagetoscreen 6d
DrSabrinaMoldenReads The ending had nothing to do with the whole point of the book IMO. Seems like it was thrown in for effect. I loved its information about the Catholic Church. For me it was about the struggles of priests and the process of choosing the Pope #conclave (edited) 6d
GingerAntics @DrSabrinaMoldenReads the ending made NO sense. It literally couldn‘t/wouldn‘t happen. With more time to process, I‘m annoyed by the ending. I really enjoyed the whole thought process of the office of the pope being the loneliest job in Christendom… possibly the world. 6d
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @GingerAntics Ok! Now, I 100% agree with you. Read my review of the book if you get chance 5d

Well, if you‘re not going to let anyone but the cardinals in the building at night, I suppose they‘ve got to alert the medics (50 meters away in a different building) that they are needed.

I adore these little glimpses that you just don‘t get in a movie.

This is so real, and so abandoned in today‘s Christianity. I feel this is a real reason why so many have left and continue to leave the church.

DrSabrinaMoldenReads I love my church and actually except for the ending, as a Catholic, I loved it. Priests are human beings, IMO, who have the same propensity to sin as others. 6d
GingerAntics @DrSabrinaMoldenReads I wish the church was willing to admit that, honestly. I grew up Catholic and never understood why you would hide abuse… even as a kid. I also wish the church embraced doubt more, but that‘s just me. 6d
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @GingerAntics I totally agree with the concerns about hiding abuse. But, other churches/religions do the same. I don‘t get the focus on Catholicism. Pedophiles put themselves in positions where they can find their prey in all kinds of institutions. My viewpoint 5d
GingerAntics @DrSabrinaMoldenReads oh, that‘s 100% true. I feel like true “people of virtue,” “men of god,” etc etc, wouldn‘t hide it, wouldn‘t victim blame… but they do. 5d

I don‘t remember snark being so strong in the movie. I‘m going to have to watch it again when I finish the book.

I‘ve wanted to read this since I watched the movie on 1 January. I‘ve just worked up the desire to read it.

kspenmoll What do you think? I want to see the movie. 7d
GingerAntics @kspenmoll the movie was great. I get why everyone was talking about it. I‘m trying to get a better handle on the ending. We had quite a discussion for a ridiculous amount of time over it. Many have said the ending is more fleshed out in the book, so here‘s hoping. 7d
kspenmoll @GingerAntics I hope the book is clearer! I want to do the same:movie then book. 7d

GingerAntics @kspenmoll I have a feeling I‘ll be watching the movie again when I‘m done. The book definitely enriches the movie. 7d
GingerAntics @kspenmoll I wish I could tell you the book is clearer… it‘s… different. I have SO many more questions and both feel like they end abruptly with no answers. Still highly recommend. 6d
DrSabrinaMoldenReads I think he already had a movie in mind when he wrote this book. 6d
DrSabrinaMoldenReads It is alot like “The Inferno” by Dan Brown but provides more accurate info about Catholic religious practices 6d
GingerAntics @DrSabrinaMoldenReads the movie makes 100% more sense than the book. I liked Inferno better than this book, honestly. I think Inferno touched more on the less mainstream, random practices. I think Dan Brown is really good at finding those random, rare practices and rituals that most people don‘t know about to use in his books. 6d
