I started this for the #dunebuddyread but got waaay behind, partly because of a bazillion library holds coming in at once, but mostly because this just wasn‘t for me. The beginning was boring, it picked up just before part 2 and I had high hopes, but it didn‘t keep my attention. At least my #genreclassic for #readharder is done!

I did it! Way off schedule, but I finished the #dunebuddyread ! It has been on my #TBR for a very long time, and this would not have happened without Litsy! This is Paul‘s precocious, younger sister who decides to give Grandfather what he deserves! It took me quite a while to get in the flow with this book, but eventually, I did start turning the pages faster! I liked the strong women characters and the riding of those worms!!!

BarbaraTheBibliophage Yay!! Glad you can cross this one off the list! And what the heck, this girl has an old man‘s forehead ... 😜 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yay! You did it! That‘s wonderful. I‘m glad you found it at least somewhat page turning by the end. #ShePersisted 6y
Suet624 I don‘t usually go for sci fi but I loved Dune. So glad you got to read it. 6y
DivineDiana @Suet624 Thank you! I am too! 6y

“A single metal hutment, many stories tall, reached out in a thousand meter circle from the base of the lighter- a tent composed of interlocking metal leaves- the temporary lodging place for five legions of Sardaukar and his Imperial Majesty.” #dunebuddyread #stillshepersists

Bookwomble I've been meaning to reread Dune for ages, and your posts are moving it up my TBR pile! 📚 6y
DivineDiana @Bookwomble Nice! This is an old edition, and I just love the illustrations! 6y
Bookwomble It looks like a nice edition. Who's the publisher? 6y
DivineDiana @Bookwomble It‘s Berkley Windhover Books/ Berkley Publishing. 1978. It is a Library Book. 🙂 6y
Bookwomble Thanks, Diana. I'm unlikely to track it down, but you've feed my inner book-nerd 😊 6y

Paul Muad‘Dib calling his first sandworm. #dunebuddyread. #stillshepersists

BarbaraTheBibliophage The #persistenceondune #buddyread. You‘re a strong woman! 6y
DivineDiana @BarbaraTheBibliophage That hash tag! So true! 😂 But I do think this is a more flattering depiction of Paul! 😉 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Yes, much more of how I‘d pictured him! 6y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa You got far this week! You are in the last section now I believe. 6y
DivineDiana @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I did! Yes, I am in the last section. Determined to wrap this up! 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @DivineDiana The last section is also the shortest one, so there‘s a motivation boost for you too! 6y

The Baron‘s nephew, Feyd-Rautha battles the slave gladiator in the Arena. #dunebuddyread

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Ok...some of these drawings are pretty freaky looking the further you go. 6y
DivineDiana @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Agree! But I‘m kind of liking them! 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Feyd-Rautha looks awfully thin and delicate. Maybe he‘s wiry. 6y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @DivineDiana I agree there too! 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage Right, I pictured him more husky.... 6y

Paul takes the baliset at the funeral of Jamis and sheds tears. “He gives moisture to the dead.” #stillipersist #dunebuddyread

Riveted_Reader_Melissa You‘re getting there, slowly but surely. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Humph. That‘s a lovely drawing but Paul looks like a middle-aged man in it. Not at all how I pictured him! 🤨 6y
DivineDiana @BarbaraTheBibliophage I agree! There are others and he looks much better! After all, he is a teenager! 😉 6y

I made my own little readathon today it seems. Dune had some growing pains towards the beginning but it turned out to be quite interesting. It does take itself very seriously though and at times can lose itself in its own denseness, and while it never lightens up it does get a bit looser in its rigidness. I am so glad I finally got around to reading this. #dunebuddyread

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Good for you. I have a few myself that I‘m struggling to push through, that are good stories, but not necessarily page-turners. Sometimes you just want to finish them up and move on. 6y
DivineDiana Still working on my read! Last Library renewal, so I know I need to “up the ante”! 6y

I‘m glad for the #dunebuddyread, because now I‘ve checked Dune off my list. I just wish it‘d been a better read for me. It lacked the energy and excitement that I want in a grand epic. I didn‘t feel deeply for the characters, in fact by the end I thought Paul was entitled and boorish. I wanted to be cheering for him! The world of Dune is imaginative, and perhaps groundbreaking, but the book fell flat for me.

knittedgnome I feel the same way about Dune. I wanted to be obsessed. 6y
sloanghost I have such a love/hate relationship with Dune. I read it during a formative teen period and it's as an adult looking back that I can see its glaring problems. 6y

bookwrm526 I wasn‘t part of the buddy read for this one, but I‘ve been working my way through it since sometime last year - promised my husband I‘d read it. Parts of it are super good and gripping but parts of it are SO SLOW!!! 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ReadingEnvy LOL. I love that quote. Good luck at the dentist! 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @knittedgnome Exactly. But eeeehhhh ... 😒 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @sloanghost I have that issues with some other books too! 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @bookwrm526 I‘ve been calling it ponderous. It‘s frustrating. 6y
bookwrm526 @BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘ve made it just past halfway, so I‘m GOING TO FINISH IT soon...but then he‘ll just make me watch the movie 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @bookwrm526 You can do it!! Did you see my post (about a month ago) that a new Dune movie is going to be made. Hoping it‘s better than the old one! (Although I haven‘t seen it.) 6y
GarthRanzz I enjoyed it but I think less than I did back in high school when I first read it. The last book in the book dragged for me. And I wound up hating Paul by the end which I don‘t recall thinking before. Not sure I‘ll finish the original trilogy now or not. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @GarthRanzz This is why I‘m not a fan of rereads. Is it better to have good memories of that first read? Or risk a book that doesn‘t hold up on the second read? I keep loosing on second reads, so I feel your pain. And I‘m glad that someone else felt like I did about Paul! 6y
bookwrm526 @BarbaraTheBibliophage I did see that somewhere, and it couldn‘t possibly be worse lol! 6y
DivineDiana Still plugging away! So far, I am not feeling the love! 🤷‍♀️ 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DivineDiana How‘s it going? Still plugging away? ❤️ 6y
DivineDiana @BarbaraTheBibliophage As a matter of fact, just settling down to read some more! On page 233. Just too many Book Club commitments! 😕😉📚 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DivineDiana Good for you to persist! I still have my book club book to read for this month. Not meeting for about ten days, though! 6y
DivineDiana @BarbaraTheBibliophage Lots of time! 😉 6y
EricaReads I finally finished it just now and I felt the same. I gave it a so so but it was just not for me. And I skipped the appendices, shh (Goodreads told me I didn‘t have to read them). 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @EricaReads Yay—you finished!! It‘s not easy. Like you, I didn‘t read the appendices. I was just done by the time I got to them. 6y

I am behind on all of my reading by at least two weeks. I am just so busy and tired that I haven't been doing much of anything.
Lots of life changes happening, lots of socializing, and lots of passing out exhausted at the end of the day. 😔
#dunebuddyread #yearoftolkien #earthseachapteraday

JazzFeathers Hope things will sattle down soon. It's been quite a stressful beginning of the year for me too. I feel you. 6y
DivineDiana I am way behind in Dune as well. So many other book commitments. I need to accept that I can‘t do it all! So, I renewed the book for the second time and will persist! Best wishes! 6y
InLibrisVeritas @DivineDiana I used today as a lazy day to catch up as much as possible. I hope you find time for it! 6y
InLibrisVeritas @JazzFeathers It truly has been. I hope things settle down for you too! 6y
