I've tried my first snacks from the Universal Yum box of African snacks. The caramel popcorn with pistachios was kind of odd, the slight bitterness of the pistachio cutting through the sweetness of the caramel. The chili flavored chips were delicious, not hot but mild sweet chilis. The Kwikiz was like a twinkie, but instead of cream filling it was apricot filled. That was my favorite so far. #snackingtheworld #AfricianTreats

KadaGul @RamsFan1963 Is African food spicy 🌶️? South Korean food is spicy🌶️, but it's not savory. 3mo
AmyG I love snacks from other countries. Oddly fascinating. 3mo
Cheshirecat913 We get the Yum boxes too! My husband loves the twinkie thing, too sweet for me. I did like the popcorn though. 3mo

RamsFan1963 @Cheshirecat913 The caramel/pistachio popcorn wasn't my thing but I'm looking forward to tasting the Worcestershire flavored popcorn, I like savory over sweet 3mo
RamsFan1963 @KadaGul I haven't run into anything in the Africa box so far that is very spicy. There's something called Ginger Chicken Yassa plantain chips I want to try next. Sounds totally freaky. South Korea is September's yum box. 3mo
KadaGul South Korean 🇰🇷 food consists of Kimchi, Bulgogi, and Gochujang. If you have an Asian Store, they will have some of these items. Because of KPOP, aka Korean Wave or Hallyu, many Asian stores started to carry South Korean 🇰🇷 items. #Hallyu #KPOP 3mo

The Band: A Novel | Christine Ma-Kellams

Pickpick

If you are a fan of #Kpop music, this novel is dark, sometimes fun, and a brutally honest look at how upsetting it can be. It‘s pretty unflinching and imo requires some basic back knowledge of the genre to get the most out of it.

Photo is of an ad for kpop octet Ateez‘s upcoming concert at stadium Citi Field. These days, these idols are big business, performing in the same venues as Taylor Swift & Beyonce. 🫶🏻🫰🏻🎤

KadaGul @Melismatic I was and am still EXO. #KPOP 4mo
Melismatic @KadaGul love it! I‘m a SuJu/Shinee gal myself, but have recently gotten into Monsta X and Stray Kids. 4mo
KadaGul @Melismatic My first K-pop Crush was Minho ( probably because I watched a Kdrama then Taemin. Then got into Shinee Songs. Loved Ring Ding Dong, Lucifer, and Sherlock. 4mo

Oh, I did not expect this to be so good! I wish I had half the self-esteem Skye has. But we also learn how much she's worked for it. She is such an inspiring character ❤ Lyla lee shows us a lot of American-Korean culture, about the showbiz and of course the whole fat-shaming that's going on. Some scenes are really hard to read, even more so when we remember that this is reality. So please be aware of the TWs 💛

Looking forward to my #BookSpin in July. My #DoubleSpin made me gulp because I'm a bit afraid of reading another chunkster just after beating a reading slump... 🙈

@TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Enjoy!! Good luck on the chunkster!!! (You can always split it up if it helps meet your goal 😂) 5mo
Jari-chan @TheAromaofBooks Thank you 😁 I might DNF another book, so I can read this one instead 😂 5mo

4.5 ⭐This book was adorable. It‘s exactly what you think you‘re going to get when you see the cover and read the blurb. Our main character is a girl who loves her local community center. So much so that she‘s leading a charge for an alternative prom. It‘s not that she has anything against prom itself, it‘s how much money people spend on prom. Upwards of $1000. She feels that money could be better put to use at the community center.

LibrarianRyan Now once upon a time she had a young, best friend before he moved back to Korea. Since moving back to Korea, he has become an idol in one of the biggest K-pop groups around. She is totally surprised when he knocks on her door and says I‘m here to take you to prom. This book is very tropey, but in the best ways. It is exactly what you think you‘re going to get and exactly what you want when you pick it up. This was a fun romp with a light romance 6mo

Cute YA romance involving a Korean-American cellist and a K-Pop idol. Pretty surface level, no real surprises, but still fun and adorable. Didn‘t really like the audio narrator- seemed a little wooden in delivery, and I hope that wasn‘t a choice. Still, there‘s a companion book now that I might check out.

American-Korean girl meets cute Korean boy in LA, has loads of fun, and falls head over heels. But he goes back to #SouthKorea & doesn‘t respond to her texts. When she travels to Korea with her Mom to help with her ill grandmother, she meets him again-& surprise! He‘s a k-pop superstar! This is a super cute fun read, with many good food references. Highly recommended! #foodandlit @Catsandbooks
