A cute lil YA romance but I think liking it will hinge on your knowledge of the #kpop industry overall/Korean culture. This is a sequel/companion novel to Once Upon a K-Prom, I definitely think Moonster is more endearing if you read the other book first (but it‘s not a necessity for the plot of this book).

Photo is of my concert lightstick for Stray Kids, a group mentioned tangentially in the book. I‘m seeing them live in a few weeks. ❤️

julesG You're lucky. My daughter wanted to go, but couldn't get tickets. 1mo
Melismatic @julesG aww that‘s too bad! Yes, ticketing was pretty brutal - we got lucky this round. 4w

As a #kpop and music nerd, this was a fantastic quick read. While I think some specialized knowledge of the industry is required to get the most out it emotionally, Kwon touches on misogyny, racism, diet culture, suicide & mental health, and so much more - tethering her own personal life journey to the idols she‘s adored.

I was approved for this nonfiction/semi memoir about #kpop and immediately had to cue it up same day. The author uses her fandom of various groups, mostly boy bands and solo female artists, to tell the story of her journey to adulthood.

Kpop will always be special to me. My first live concert from a Korean artist was JYJ back in 2010 — one of its 3 members has already been mentioned quite a bit in this book.

Melismatic In my 20s, I kept a blog about music I loved & live concerts I attended. It‘s fun to relive now years later. http://www.melismaticblog.com/2010/11/jyj-in-nyc.html?m=1 (edited) 4mo

Read mainly because my teenager is a K-Pop fan. Might have been a bit shorter, the third act resolution dragged a bit.

I've tried my first snacks from the Universal Yum box of African snacks. The caramel popcorn with pistachios was kind of odd, the slight bitterness of the pistachio cutting through the sweetness of the caramel. The chili flavored chips were delicious, not hot but mild sweet chilis. The Kwikiz was like a twinkie, but instead of cream filling it was apricot filled. That was my favorite so far. #snackingtheworld #AfricianTreats

KadaGul @RamsFan1963 Is African food spicy 🌶️? South Korean food is spicy🌶️, but it's not savory. 10mo
AmyG I love snacks from other countries. Oddly fascinating. 10mo
Cheshirecat913 We get the Yum boxes too! My husband loves the twinkie thing, too sweet for me. I did like the popcorn though. 10mo

RamsFan1963 @Cheshirecat913 The caramel/pistachio popcorn wasn't my thing but I'm looking forward to tasting the Worcestershire flavored popcorn, I like savory over sweet 10mo
RamsFan1963 @KadaGul I haven't run into anything in the Africa box so far that is very spicy. There's something called Ginger Chicken Yassa plantain chips I want to try next. Sounds totally freaky. South Korea is September's yum box. 10mo
KadaGul South Korean 🇰🇷 food consists of Kimchi, Bulgogi, and Gochujang. If you have an Asian Store, they will have some of these items. Because of KPOP, aka Korean Wave or Hallyu, many Asian stores started to carry South Korean 🇰🇷 items. #Hallyu #KPOP 10mo
