pickAs a #kpop and music nerd, this was a fantastic quick read. While I think some specialized knowledge of the industry is required to get the most out it emotionally, Kwon touches on misogyny, racism, diet culture, suicide & mental health, and so much more - tethering her own personal life journey to the idols she‘s adored.
I was approved for this nonfiction/semi memoir about #kpop and immediately had to cue it up same day. The author uses her fandom of various groups, mostly boy bands and solo female artists, to tell the story of her journey to adulthood.
Kpop will always be special to me. My first live concert from a Korean artist was JYJ back in 2010 — one of its 3 members has already been mentioned quite a bit in this book.
pickRead mainly because my teenager is a K-Pop fan. Might have been a bit shorter, the third act resolution dragged a bit.

I've tried my first snacks from the Universal Yum box of African snacks. The caramel popcorn with pistachios was kind of odd, the slight bitterness of the pistachio cutting through the sweetness of the caramel. The chili flavored chips were delicious, not hot but mild sweet chilis. The Kwikiz was like a twinkie, but instead of cream filling it was apricot filled. That was my favorite so far. #snackingtheworld #AfricianTreats

pickIf you are a fan of #Kpop music, this novel is dark, sometimes fun, and a brutally honest look at how upsetting it can be. It‘s pretty unflinching and imo requires some basic back knowledge of the genre to get the most out of it.

pickOh, I did not expect this to be so good! I wish I had half the self-esteem Skye has. But we also learn how much she's worked for it. She is such an inspiring character ❤ Lyla lee shows us a lot of American-Korean culture, about the showbiz and of course the whole fat-shaming that's going on. Some scenes are really hard to read, even more so when we remember that this is reality. So please be aware of the TWs 💛
