I've tried my first snacks from the Universal Yum box of African snacks. The caramel popcorn with pistachios was kind of odd, the slight bitterness of the pistachio cutting through the sweetness of the caramel. The chili flavored chips were delicious, not hot but mild sweet chilis. The Kwikiz was like a twinkie, but instead of cream filling it was apricot filled. That was my favorite so far. #snackingtheworld #AfricianTreats
August book journal spread. It‘ll be a busy month so I have a small goal! Just finished XOXO and am working on Chain Gang All Stars
If you are a fan of #Kpop music, this novel is dark, sometimes fun, and a brutally honest look at how upsetting it can be. It‘s pretty unflinching and imo requires some basic back knowledge of the genre to get the most out of it.
Photo is of an ad for kpop octet Ateez‘s upcoming concert at stadium Citi Field. These days, these idols are big business, performing in the same venues as Taylor Swift & Beyonce. 🫶🏻🫰🏻🎤
Oh, I did not expect this to be so good! I wish I had half the self-esteem Skye has. But we also learn how much she's worked for it. She is such an inspiring character ❤ Lyla lee shows us a lot of American-Korean culture, about the showbiz and of course the whole fat-shaming that's going on. Some scenes are really hard to read, even more so when we remember that this is reality. So please be aware of the TWs 💛

Looking forward to my #BookSpin in July. My #DoubleSpin made me gulp because I'm a bit afraid of reading another chunkster just after beating a reading slump... 🙈

4.5 ⭐This book was adorable. It‘s exactly what you think you‘re going to get when you see the cover and read the blurb. Our main character is a girl who loves her local community center. So much so that she‘s leading a charge for an alternative prom. It‘s not that she has anything against prom itself, it‘s how much money people spend on prom. Upwards of $1000. She feels that money could be better put to use at the community center.
Cute YA romance involving a Korean-American cellist and a K-Pop idol. Pretty surface level, no real surprises, but still fun and adorable. Didn‘t really like the audio narrator- seemed a little wooden in delivery, and I hope that wasn‘t a choice. Still, there‘s a companion book now that I might check out.
American-Korean girl meets cute Korean boy in LA, has loads of fun, and falls head over heels. But he goes back to #SouthKorea & doesn‘t respond to her texts. When she travels to Korea with her Mom to help with her ill grandmother, she meets him again-& surprise! He‘s a k-pop superstar! This is a super cute fun read, with many good food references. Highly recommended! #foodandlit @Catsandbooks
