The 2nd half of the book, is Caesar conquering more places in Europe and becoming the ruler of Rome. He then got stabbed by a group, like Brutus and Gaius. They got into power and made their own territories. Caesar's cousin, Octavius, who was revealed to be adopted by Caesar went to war with Brutus and Gaius and reclaimed Caesar's legacy. If you like books that are historical then this book is for you.

Muzzi.Castrodes A major theme is War, as most of the book is war and conquering. Another theme is betrayal as Caesar was stabbed by the people he trusted most. 4w

As I clean the guest room so it is suitable for guests I had to take a small bookcase out (never fun) I still am obsessed with these little Booksellers stickers they used to put inside the books. How can there be so many books in a small bookcase ? 5 boxes ? Really?

LeahBergen So cool! 1mo

Caesar's Legion, a book about Caesar's many great battles which mostly were his victory. Giving a focus on his 10th legion which Caesar gave extra attention (rigorous training, discipline, and better food.) to became one of his strongest armies he commands. The story starts with a battle, that shortly cuts to the start of Caesar's reign as a general. The first half talks about his battles with Parts of Europe. The view is a 3rd person observer.

There were two major parts of the book. Urban covered the history of mercenaries in medieval Europe, focusing on specific groups (like the Teutonic Knights) or events (like the Battle of Crecy). I found the historical examination to be informative.
The other major focus of the book was how mercenaries were viewed through literature. I felt the book was less focused and jumped around alot in these chapters.
Decent book, but could be stronger.

This was one of the first things I saw when I went to the New York Times app this morning. How terribly sad. There are only 48 D-Day survivors left, the youngest one being 98 years old.🥺

Crusade in Europe | Dwight David Eisenhower
Pickpick

It took awhile to read but it helped me understand the integrity of Eisenhower and his point of view on WW2. At the end he says that it was proven that a collaboration of allies could defeat a strong and evil foe to preserve liberty. He could have said more about Russia, but it was too soon.
