This collection of newspaper articles from the 1930‘s had a few really interesting ones and then a couple that while they were definitely of the time, they were tough to read now. His perspective of NYC from many different walks of life, rich and poor, during this pivotal time was illuminating and revealing. #BookspinBingo #roll100 @TheAromaofBooks @PuddleJumper
A fun chaotic story! There's a lot of characters to keep straight, but it wasn't a huge issue. I liked it. It mostly centers around one brownstone home in New York that is packed with stuff, family, life and one problem after another. Somehow it all works out. People step up to help each other out. Really enjoyed these eccentric characters. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's perfect for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Puts you in the right frame of mind.
For me I loved the audio of this book. It was loud & full of emotion, the narrator really embodied Anita. The book addresses racism, classism, sexism…in the 1980s how a woman of color could be erased by a white man & her accomplishments (almost) forgotten. There are dual timelines, for me I liked hearing Anita‘s side & Raquel (a student writing her thesis for art history & stumbles upon Anita)
A cold case detective with an unusual memory condition catches a case that is less cold than expected. I devoured this on the plane - and I‘m honestly sad that past me exercised restraint and didn‘t buy the whole series upfront because now I‘m going to have to wait until I get home and I can load the rest onto my kindle.
I struggled to get into this at the start, the art world seemed rather impenetrable, filled with obnoxious, entitled people, mainly men. But then I realised that this is the whole point of the book and I ended up loving it almost* as much as I did Olga Dies Dreaming.
Anita is a rising star in the art world in 1985 when she is found dead. Raquel, a student of colour, feels out of her depth at Brown, until she meets an older very privileged ⬇️
1. I love both, but would probably go with spots if forced to choose.
2. My daughter & I are doing a read-aloud of the tagged book, which we borrowed from the library. ❤️ the Vanderbeekers ~ we‘re sad it‘s the final book in this series.

This was just ok. I will always love the wonderful cast of characters, however the mystery in this one was just a little dull. Also I am really over the house renovation side plot, can it be done already?! 3⭐️
