Loved the premise of this book, but thought it could have been more. A pick, but a low pick.

This was a fun book to read. Anita, an upstarting immigrant artist, is over shadowed by her jealous white husband artist. I wanted to see more of Anita and how she interacted with Jack, and their peers. Raquel‘s later timeline felt disjointed, even as it felt similar. So there‘s that. It built up to connect, though it never really felt it did. Anita is petty against Jack and I‘m all here for it. The ending felt rushed; little off character.
Three Canandian college friends take a trip to New York City. Their adventures are expressive and so much that happens in this book feels urgent like it burns too hot too fast. I love the character and page designs, especially their trip to the museum. The ending felt like falling flat on my face.

3 months and 1,162 pages later, I‘m finally done with The Power Broker! Totally lives up to its reputation as one of the greatest biographies of all time. Caro‘s meticulous attention to detail and captivating narrative style make this a true epic. Grateful to have learned so much about the political history & urban geography of the city I now call home. 🌟5/5🌟
An entertaining thrill ride from the start, this was an enjoyable read. Sun Trap follows a Hollywood movie crew to the Abu Dhabi desert, where the filmmaking gets deadly. This is one of the books with constant action. I was invested in the story although I did not feel connected to the characters at all. Especially after the half way mark there was twist after twist after twist. Also, is this not one of the most gorgeous covers you've ever seen?
I loved Weike Wang‘s other books, and I might very well have loved this one but I‘ll never know because I couldn‘t get past the first 4 pages, where every character is introduced by giving their weight. Maybe her co-worker‘s “robust” 139 pounds will become a salient detail later, but I wont be reading to find out.
OK stories about NYC people. Barkeepers, old people, runaways, and others. Mostly right after 9-11. Best for native New Yorkers probably.
