pickSometimes I don‘t like grump-sunshine romances because both of the MCs seem too extreme and unrealistic, like the sunshine heroine will be too zany for real life. In this one, the sunshine is grieving and the grump helps her through it, and I was not annoyed. Some really heartwarming scenes in this one 💗

so-soThis was horrific because it very much deals with a toxic relationship but outside of the premise its not really scifi. I feel like the author was trying to say some very important things but the overall execution was a little lacking. I just wanted a little something more than I got.
pickMaas is not disappointing with this series. The middle was a little slow in the way of action, but she made up for it by focusing on the characters and developing their relationships, as well as with an intriguing mystery unfolding in the castle. I like the MC and some of the characters around her, and of course there‘s a bit of a love triangle. I‘m rooting for the underdog, of course lol. Can‘t wait to see what else happens…
so-so2.5 stars. I have mixed feeling for this. I liked the 2nd half of the book more than the 1st half. The main character, Gemma, was a spoiled rich girl. She was not a very likable character. Her love interest, Talan, was very suspicious to me. The insta love was a little too convenient. There is an interesting magic system and world building. The writing style was a little disjointed with chapters ending too abruptly.
January 11, 2026 As of yesterday, I reached page 164. Chrssy and Vin are fake dating. Even though they are only fake dating, while Chrssy teaches Vin about TCm (Traditional Chinese Medicine), she still has feelings towards Vin the more they hang together. Is Chrssy going to be able to keep her promise of "fake dating"???
