A city on the edge of upheaval. A cop trying to keep her head down in the corrupt police force that demoted her, then murdered her. & the powers she gains to protect her city as she‘s resurrected.

This was gorgeous to listen to. The combination of noir, fantasy, horror & biopunk was fascinating. Loved a story of the reluctant heroes, saving their world because nobody else would. Could have done with more character depth, but loved it! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

A combination memoir of Liliuokalani, last queen of Hawai'i, and a refutation of the Treaty of Annexation of 1897.

A very important read. It provides a lot of historical context for the illegal annexation of Hawai‘i by the United States, but we also get a glimpse of the woman who was queen and of her life. Very dense, very Victorian, and very dry, but a fascinating read. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

A collection of poems examining identity, personal history, & relationships in vivid images.

This was gorgeous& intimate. I loved Tayi‘s hold on rhythm in her poetry. I could almost feel it pulsing. She paints such evocative images, & all these poems had such a strong sense of place.

Definitely going to need to listen to this again! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

My first read for #ReadingForMaui is Queen Liliuokalani‘s writing, pleading for the restoration of her kingdom‘s independence from the United States‘s annexation.
