138/150 Yes!! I finally finished this, just under the wire. I've been reading it since September. That doesn't mean it's not a good read, it is, but it's very extensive, detailed and it covers the English monarchy from the 1100s to the current reign of Charles III. If you're interested in history, monarchical governments or just England, I recommend this well researched and absorbing history. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

137/150 I will be nice and say that this is "heavily influenced" by Tolkien and Lord of the Rings. It's not a direct ripoff, but there are so many parallels that you can't help but have an overwhelming sense of deja vu. That alone doesn't make it a so-so book, but the writing is bland, more telling than showing. The Brothers Hildebrandt are amazing artists, as seen from the paintings and drawings that illustrate the novel, but as writers ⬇️⬇️

136/150 If you have an interest in cosmology, physics or astronomy, this is a nice primer. The science is easily explained, without drowning the listener with complex theories and mathematics. 3 ⭐⭐⭐💫

135/150 A couple of years ago, I read Kara Cooney's When Women Ruled The World, which was about 6 queens of Egypt. This expands on that, covering women's roles of power in Greek, Roman, and Chinese cultures, while also explaining more about Egypt under Cleopatra. While this is told in lesson format, for The Great Courses audio series, it does not come off as text book dry. 3 ⭐⭐⭐💫

134/150 I can't say much about the plot of this book without giving away spoilers. A group of astronauts and criminals, who had their consciousness uploaded into a virtual reality, and then downloaded back into their bodies to discover the world has changed in a very radical way. Solid narrative cast, I always enjoy Brendan Fraser, and a clever story with a satisfying ending. 3 ⭐⭐⭐💫

133/150 I did not grow up in the 90s, I turned 30 in 1993, but all the music discussed here resonates with me. As the cover says, the book covers more than 60 songs, everything from grunge to rap, heavy metal to R&B, and back again. I don't agree with all the author assessments, I like U2, but he brings a very knowledgeable opinion to the discussion. One note, if you choose the audiobook, the author sounds, to me, like ⬇️⬇️⬇️

132/150 This straddled the line between a low pick and so-so, but the conclusion was exciting enough to push it into a pick. I'm not really fond of stories with heavy religious overtones, so that took away some of my enjoyment of the scientific aspects of the story. The Christian preacher and evangelist seemed more caricatures than real characters.

131/150 The Conclusion of the Gangsterland trilogy was just as crazy, violent and blood soaked as I expected. Rabbi David Cohen (aka gangster Sal Cupertine) knows his days are numbered, either he will finally be captured by the FBI and turn state evidence, or his fellow mafia family will kill him to keep it from happening. Cupertine isn't a anti-hero, he's a cold blooded killer, but I couldn't help wanting to see him survive, to beat the odds ⬇️⬇️

130/150 First off, this isn't the X-Men, its Excalibur and the Exiles. If you don't know who they are, too bad because the story assumes you know and doesn't offer any background on the various character relationships. This is a graphic novel for people already deep in X-Men lore, not for newbies. The best comic stories are inclusive, they bring the reader into the story, so even if they haven't read the last dozen issues, they can follow ⬇️⬇️

129/150 I remember reading this when I was around 19 or 20, and hating it. I thought it was slow and boring. Time definitely changes perspective. This is a wonderful novel about both individuality and belonging, what the next step in evolution might mean, and how we poor H. Saps might be swept away. It starts a little slow, but by the beginning of the middle section, "Baby is Three", the story takes off and is enthralling until the every end.
