Not Summer and Not Fun but Good. In 2009 Gala has an obsession with a ‘60s era band. Through her, we learn about the band leader‘s life: a mash-up of Captain Beefheart, The Beach Boys and The Twyborn Affair. An animal magnetic force, or maybe magic, pulled me through the non-linear storyline, the fractured relationships and the narrator‘s apparent dissociative disorder. Thank you #SohoPress and #Netgalley for the free ARC.

In 2029 Tokyo, Filipina nurse Angelica faces a job threat when her client Sayoko, a near-centenarian, receives an AI robot as a gift from her son. As Sayoko begins to confide in the robot, Angelica realizes a wide gulf of secrets about their past exists between the two women. Will the robot drive them apart or bring them together? I really loved this story about the strength of women who have had to give up so much of themselves just to survive.
This was a great sci-fi book! In the future, humans are living much longer and Japan is importing foreign nurses to take care of their aging population. Hiro is an AI given to Sayoko by her son to be a companion. Anjelica is her nurse, who doesn't trust him. It's a fascinating story about humanity, secrets, and a dark part of WW II that the Japanese don't speak of. #robots #artificialintelligence
Not my usual type of book but I‘ve heard great things. And where else should you read a book about AI but at the mechanic where your not so smart car is getting checked over.
This is what our reviewer had to say about #TheLeafReader by Emily Arsenault "THE LEAF READER is a short but taut novel....Arsenault‘s writing is brisk and no-nonsense. While her characters occasionally fall into “type,” they are also realistically surprising....[A] well written and entertaining young adult thriller!" #SohoTeen #SohoPress
Our reviewer had this to say about this new imagining of a classic Victorian romance novel, "Gagnon adds [an] edginess and unrelenting pace to #UnearthlyThings Without being familiar with #JaneEyre readers will still enjoy the supernatural aspects and the gripping entanglements of this young girl‘s situation." If you love Jane Eyre, we highly recommend you check out this ? from #SohoTeen #SohoPress
So excited to get this book from #SohoPress, one of my fave imprints. Coming in March, and looks amazing. Yay, Hannah Lillith Assadi!
