August 2025 Book #4

This story is inspired in events that occurred in Willowbrook and which were exposed by Geraldo Rivera about deplorable conditions students with disabilities and residents were living and the abuse they received. The novel is about Sage and her twin sister who had disabilities and she thought was dead but she was not. Then Sage is confused by her twin sister and is through her that we will see what happen insudecWilkiwbrook⬇️

Gissy The author‘s note give information and references about Willowbrook and the class action lawsuit parents and guardians filed after the situation was exposed. When I read the novel, it sounded too exaggerated and almost unrealistic but after author‘s note, I think real events could be worst. The author clarified which areas were fictionalized. Even with this explanation, you will like to know what happened to Sage and her sister. 3.8⭐️ 1w
BkClubCare This is so sad. Humans really can be awful. 1w

Gissy @BkClubCare Yes! I will try to see that documentary by Geraldo Rivera. They definitely closed the late in the 80‘ but according to the author there is a report in 2020 about how the abuse continue in some small institutions 💔 7d
BkClubCare @Gissy - yeah… I went down a wiki rabbit hole when I read your post because I wasn‘t aware of Willowbrook. Seems like any group home has dark stories 😢 7d
BkClubCare Also, thought of you when the TV last night spent some time showing the PR celebration for NYE 💖 7d
Gissy @BkClubCare Oh thank you! 😃❤️ 7d
DieAReader @BkClubCare 😭😡It certainly seems that way, doesn‘t it? @Gissy Great job🥳 7d

Two men went out fishing in a small boat off the coast of Mexico and were caught in a storm. Their boat was disabled and ended up drifting across the Pacific all the way to the Marshal Islands. If, like me, you found the on the sea part of A Marriage at Sea a little thin, this is the book for you. Salvador is an extraordinary man with a great attitude, and I loved this book.

The illustrations in this book are amazing and very detailed. It seems as though the colors are muted which helps explain the mood of the story even more.

Israeli Yossi, American Kevin, and Swiss Marcus are mochileros (backpackers) in Bolivia who decide they want to see a real jungle and Indian village. They hire a man, Karl, to guide them through the forest. As the title makes obvious, everything goes terribly wrong. These mochileros have no idea that their enthusiasm isn‘t enough to get them out alive. It is gruesome and harrowing. Yossi lives to write the book—so there‘s that. Yossi spends ⬇️

Texreader what feels like an eternity getting to the hike, especially the relationship between them. But he continues that level of detail throughout, and it seems he wants to do right by the men who started the journey with him to acknowledge what each man went through. Whatever you do, don‘t listen to the audiobook. The narrator doesn‘t sound human (I confirmed it‘s not AI). He over-enunciates (annoying!) and provides almost no emotions. I quit ⬇️ 4mo
Texreader the audiobook and checked out the ebook. So glad I did. I recommend it but beware, this is sheer survival mode. If ever one could have almost every bad thing happen, it happened to Yossi. I hope to see the movie Jungle with Daniel Radcliffe now, but I hope it is not so gruesome. #Bolivia #foodandlit @Catsandbooks 4mo
LiseWorks I saw the movie, it was good. 4mo

Inspiring, entertaining, and surprisingly informative (about social history, history, and just plain quirky facts); sailed through this in a day. (Of course it was a day with no responsibilities, so easier.) #letterR #LitsyAtoZ @Texreader

Suet624 I get excited when I see someone has read this. An amazing story. I read it four or five years ago and I still think of it often. Usually when I‘m whining about something. 5mo
Lcsmcat @Suet624 I loved that she referenced William Least Heat Moon as an inspiration of hers because I loved 5mo
