I listened to the audiobook for #WithTheBanned and I‘m including it with #Read2025 because I actually finished the book and for #SeriesLove2025 because it‘s the first book in a trilogy that I won‘t continue. I gave it two stars on Goodreads because the unusual style of poetry and prose is the only thing I liked about the book. There are several reasons I didn‘t like it. I‘m tired of YA and teenage angst. I‘m tired of multi book series. (cont)⬇️

CatLass007 But I think the main reason is because I read Go Ask Alice in junior high and, even though I now know it‘s not a true story from a dead teenage girl‘s diary, it still set the standard as a cautionary tale about drugs and sex. There are new drugs available now but I don‘t think the book lives up to the hype. Ordinarily I would bail on a book I didn‘t like but I wanted to see if the book ever got better and I don‘t believe it did. 3h

CatLass007 @TheSpineView It already is. 1h
5feet.of.fury I‘ll be reading this one too, I know the series was very popular when it was first released but I was out of the target demographic at that point & never paid it any mind. 1h
CatLass007 @5feet.of.fury I liked her writing style. I hope you and the rest of the group like it more than I did. 58m

46/100 While I don't think this was as good as the first novel, it was still a fun adventure, with enough mystery and hijinks to keep me involved and interested in the final outcome. I liked all the characters, especially Billy, so I hope we do see a third novel in the future. 4.25/5 #Read2025 #SeriesLove2025

I‘m behind on reviews & discussion but I finished this for April‘s #Naturalitsy #BuddyRead I borrowed an ebook copy from the library & it‘s a quick & interesting book of essays about the Owens Valley & Mohave Desert in California. Written in 1903, it‘s wonderful nature writing & while my version may have suffered for lack of photos, the writing was descriptive enough to make me see it in my mind. While reading & ⬇️

DebinHawaii …stopping to Google more details, I found out/realized that From 1942 to 1945, during World War II, the first Japanese American Internment camp operated in the Owens valley at Manzanar. Maybe it‘s only interesting to me because I grew up reading & rereading the book tagged below but I like when I can tie books together. A enjoyable read overall, I would buy a print copy (hopefully with pictures) for my shelves. (edited) 1d

I very much enjoyed all the characters & storylines of the ‘Promise Falls‘ books. I‘m sad to say this was the 4th & final instalment.

This was my first Barclay experience & for sure will not be my last!

So this one is a low pick for me. While I liked the characters, it needed a stronger plot. This book is all about the smut. Which is OK, but I need a good plot to go along with it. I may or may not read the next book in the series. It will depend on my mood. 3.5🌟 ##SeriesLove2025 @Andrew65 #Read2025 @DieAReader #LitsyLoveReads @Read4life @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks #ShelfSweeper @Tove_Reads

Retief! | Keith Laumer

45/100 Keith Laumer has always been one of my favorite sci-fi writers, and Jami Retief is his greatest creation. Retief is a member of the CDT (Corps Diplomatique Terrestrienne) who look out for Terrestrial interests in the universe. Sadly, Retief is surrounded by incompetent diplomats, more interested in promotions and commendations, than doing the right thing for the planets they watch over. Retief is cynical, clever and totally irreverent ⬇️

RamsFan1963 it comes to listening to authority figures. This is definitely comic science fiction, but Retief makes for a solid hero, always doing what he thinks is right. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 #Read2025 #SeriesLove2025 2d

Amanda Knox is known as the girl who went on trail for the murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher. Her first book,'Waiting to be Heard,' tells mostly about the trail. 'Free' tells a bit about the trail, her time in prison, and her life since.

I enjoyed this book because I can remember her trail. She spent 4 years in prison, then 8 before she was finally cleared by the Court of Cessation, that like the US Supreme Court, but in Italy.
⬇️

MonicaLoves2Read ⬆️ I have to say she's a better person than me. There's no way I would have gone back to Italy and then met the man who put me in prison for something I didn't do. No way! She's a very strong person. I am glad she has gotten married, has a family, and seems to be doing good with her life.

Published March 25, 2025

Thanks to Netgalley, Grand Central Publishing, and Amanda Knox for the E-ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

Finished this one for #Pemberlittens #JaneAustenThenAndNow It‘s the 2nd book in the For the Love of Austen series & was an enjoyable retelling of Pride and Prejudice—I think I might have liked it even better than their take on Emma. . I loved the beach town setting & what the authors‘ did with the characters—making Mary a passionate environmentalist was perfect. And we got to spend time with Emma & Knightly too. Fun!

#Read2025

This week work is totally kicking my butt so I‘m behind on reviews, book clubs, posting—all the things.😵‍💫

Posting a quick review for this book, my third #Roll100 pick of April (#24 Any short stories or essays). I have been meaning to read this since it came out & overall I really enjoyed it. The stories explore the experiences of Native Hawaiian & mixed race women in Hawaii & are a mix of speculative fiction, horror, magical ⬇️

DebinHawaii …realism & folklore. Some are weirder than others, some I liked more than others but I appreciated the sense of place in all of them. I think having lived in Honolulu for 24 years helped my enjoyment—so a pick for me. 3d
