The One and Only Ivan | Katherine Applegate

This book will have your emotions all over the place. Spoken through the eyes of a very expressive, thoughtful, and loving Silverback Gorilla by the name of Ivan. I would categorize this book in the genre of RF because even though it is a story told by a talking animal, the situation he speaks of can and has happened. The UDL principles 9.3 & 3.1 regarding developing self-assessment/reflection & activate/supply background knowledge#UCFLAE341F19

Tinks **Added info.** This heart-felt novel is about perseverance, love, loss, promises, and new beginnings. A must read, young and old & should be in every classroom. In addition, the principles goes along with EL 4,17 for linking lesson topic to students' prior knowledge and provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions. This is also in conjunction with teaching strategy IR. 5y
Tinks ** The novel was also a winner of the 2013 Newbery medal, a 2012 Christopher gold medal and will soon be a major motion picture with a release date of August 14th, 2020. 🐘 🐶 🐎 🐦 😊#UCFLAE3414F19 5y
