VE DAY! 75 years!
My grandpa was there, oh how I miss that man, he was a prison guard of Nazis most of his time during the war.
My great uncle was mentioned in the book The Hiding Place. Dr. Heemstra.
I remember all my grandparents taking about the war to me as a child.
What a sense of relief they had to have felt but also such sorrow. #VEDAY

AmyK1 Wow. That‘s very cool. Both of my grandpas were in the war but neither talked about it much. 4y
TheBookHippie @AmyK1 Mine hid the fact they were Jewish when the came to the states .. the cultural and Yiddish was pasted down but they would say they were Germanic which is true but they would never write it down on anything. EVER. I think it was so horrific I‘m sure I only got 5 percent of the total stories. My dad doesn‘t talk about Vietnam at all. Ever. Last year was the first year he agreed to go to veterans assembly . My grandson who is6 asked him to. 4y
AmyK1 Yes, I‘m sure you‘re right. What they saw and had to do-I can‘t imagine. My grandma wanted to go see my uncle who was stationed in Germany in the late 80s and my grandpa refused to go- too many bad memories 😢 4y
JaclynW The horrors of war are no joke.😔😭 4y
kspenmoll Thank you all for sharing your family stories. My dad missed the war- he was fast tracked through college ROTC in two years, then Med School but the war ended before he finished. Family members& friends served overseas though. One cousin he cared for the rest of his life had horrific shell shock. Both he & my mom shared the grief of losing loved ones. My husband‘s dad served in the Pacific but would never talk about it. 4y
