Career of Evil | Robert Galbraith

Stayed up till 2:30 reading this last night. You all know how that goes.

For those who have yet to read, a giant giant TW for rape & CSA. Giant. It's mentioned & described in detail multiple times. There's usually a couple lines that lead up to its discussion so you can figure out when to start skimming

If you don't already, pls PLS consider mentioning in your reviews if rape/abuse is present in a book. The warning is wildly helpful

julesG I'm reading this book right now. How can I say this without sounding like a douchebag? I'm not triggered by the rape part of this book. I find it scary, yes. It's uncomfortable to read those scenes, yes. But, and this is where I hope you are not misunderstanding me, I'm not bothered by this being the topic/plot device behind this detective story. Don't think I'm a cold-hearted bitch. 6y
julesG I'll make sure to leave a trigger warning in my review. I'm glad you pointed this out, because, since I don't mind gory details in books, I've never thought about TW other readers. As mentioned above, I'm not cold-hearted, I'm just very resilient. 6y
queerbookreader @julesG I'm not mad or anything I'm glad you aren't bothered by it that much, I'm not against using abuse as the plot in detective and crime stories cos it's a crime that happens all the time but that also means......there's a lot of folks who have been abused and for some it's nice to have a heads up about it so they can mentally prepare themselves for reading about it 6y

queerbookreader @julesG warning folks about content like that just gives them agency to decide if they want to expose themselves to that content or if they want to avoid it, that's the point of TWs. I don't mind reading about murder and kidnapping and super bloody gory stuff but talk about sexual abuse freaks me right out so it's just nice to have a warning so I can be prepared to face that content 6y
julesG Totally get it. I just never thought about it before. Which is crazy and ignorant. Hence I do appreciate people reminding me to TW. Just like I keep reminding people to spoiler tag their subscription box unboxing pictures. 😉 6y
queerbookreader @julesG You're good!!! I'm glad you've never had to think about it before. It's really easy ie: "TW for graphic description of rape" just like that. It's all folks need it's super simple and it's super helpful. Thanks for being so understanding about it ? 6y
2BR02B I'm an abuse survivor who reads all kinds of disturbing stuff because... immersion therapy, I guess? (Don't get me started on how much time I spent in the sarlacc pit of emotional agony that was the #WhyIDidntReport hashtag). That being said, I really appreciate content warnings for kidnapping and imprisonment, because I'd just rather not. 6y
queerbookreader @2BR02B I stayed 100000ft away from that hashtag, couldn't handle it at all. Everyone's different!! but ya giving warnings for various scary content is nice just so readers can decide for themselves what they want to read and what to stay away from. For the record this book hasn't got kidnapping/imprisonment in it 6y

Pickpick

A memoir from a teen girl who was raped by a senior boy at her boarding school when she was 15. At first she does what many survivors do—she blames herself and wonders if what happened was really rape. She recounts her legal battle, which shows why so many survivors don‘t report. Her school cared more about its reputation than the safety of its students. The media and the legal process put her attacker‘s rights above hers. #MeToo #WhyIDidntReport

Samplergal Hmmmm, plucked from the headlines! 6y
