Today was one of those days. I got 4 hours of sleep and because of the snow I basically stayed at home. I watched an American Experience episode on Joseph McCarthy at least 3 times before deleting it. The early part of the evening was crap. May finally get some reading before I go to bed.

Chrissyreadit Hope you read something that you enjoyed reading. 2w
melissajayne @Chrissyreadit Read a couple chapters out of my Harry Potter read. 2w

I‘ve been in bed since 9:30 am trying to decide if I have the flu or something more serious, steadfastly refusing to go to urgent care or the ER on Christmas Eve. I haven‘t been able to read at all. On the bright side, I did receive this adorable card from @mellissimo which makes me smile. Thank you, Melanie, for brightening my otherwise miserable day! #litsylove
ETA: thank you all for your concern. I‘m sure I‘ll be ok by Thursday.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Go to the ER! Having spent a previous Xmas eve in the ER, it‘s actually surprisingly quiet there that night of the year....and a possible heart attack is nothing to fool around with... it‘s totally worth it to miss one Christmas Eve in trade for many future ones. 1mo
DGRachel @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I figure after 10 hours of feeling like death warmed over, it‘s probably not a heart attack. I‘m going to try to hydrate better this evening. If I still feel horrid in the morning, I‘ll seriously consider the trip to the ER. Thank you for your concern. 🥰 1mo
Kaila-ann Agreed! Christmas Eve usually isn‘t bad in the ER and better safe than sorry. Hope you feel better soon! 1mo

Emilymdxn Sending lots of love. I‘d also vote for going to the emergency room if in doubt, Christmas might be the quietest time of the year to have an emergency! I have a friend who‘s messed up her foot three years running in different ways every year (ikr I don‘t know how either) and she makes the ER sound surprisingly easy - I hope you get a restful Christmas and feel better 1mo
LiteraryinLititz Go to the emergency room if there is any doubt! 1mo

DGRachel @vivastory Thanks! That‘s probably what I‘m most disappointed about. 😭 1mo

Moxie‘s having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. She hasn‘t felt like eating since yesterday. We took her to the vet, and are monitoring her, and feeding her Critical Care & pain meds. The vet said she‘s not in stasis “yet” but I‘m really nervous. 😥💖 Bunnies have a lot of tuff ‘tude but they‘re actually big, sensitive softies. Please send us your most earnest, magical, & effective healing vibes.

monalyisha Update: We returned to the vet (for the second time) & got heavier pain meds & a motility drug. She‘s eating a little & moving around a bit more today, but still no poops. We‘re all trying so hard. Keep us in your thoughts! (edited) 2mo
monalyisha Update: Moxie seems to be doing MUCH better today! Things are moving inside & out! She‘s eating hay, & hooping about! It‘s such a dramatic improvement! She‘s still being closely-monitored & is still on pain meds & not entirely in the clear, but it really seems like progress — like things might actually be okay. THANK YOU for your warm wishes for her! 2mo

Today is cancelled.
DACA is on the line at the supreme court. It's the last day of our open enrollment. And to top it off the school decided to not take my kid's picture for retakes even though he was clearly dressed for it and I messaged the teacher ahead of time. 😭 I really hope I see some reading time at the end of this dumpster fire day. 🗑🔥

Chrissyreadit I am waiting with every ounce of hope I have. 2mo
sprainedbrain I‘m having a dumpster fire kinda day too. 😬 2mo

Today is an Alexander day. Even Goodreads “has too many visitors“. I don't want to vote for their awards - I need to update an audiobook I just finished (that sucked). *sigh* 😭

LibrarianRyan Maybe it's having too many kids on snow day blahs. 2mo

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is a children‘s RF book about a boy named Alexander and how a day he has goes from bad to worse. I would highly recommend it for children and how it can be relatable to anyone that just seems to have a bad day.

MarkZalewski This website is a great source for activities that can be done in class with the book 3mo
MarkZalewski The UDL principle I would apply to this would be, Highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas,
and relationships (3.2). The book helps students to understand the idea that not every day is going to be a good one, and it‘s okay to have a bad day.

Alexander and the Terrible , Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst, 1972. Picturebook Black and white are used in illustrations. I think this is a great choice in the attempts to set the mood of the story. Because Alexander is not having a great day, black and white represents a gloom full and dreary day. The author reiterated after every one of Alexander‘s encounter the fact that he was having a terrible horrible no good very bad day

This is a great Halloween read-together for preschooler/kindergarten aged children. The rhyming text and quirky pictures combine to produce a fantastic exploration of what happens when witchy Mrs. Bibblebox wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. Sadly, the book is no longer in print so if you find one buy it! This will be a Halloween must read for years to come.

This children‘s book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day written by Judith Viorst and illustrated by Ray Cruz, is a very cute children‘s story about a boy named Alexander who goes through a lot of complications through his day and wishes he lived in Australia so that these mishaps wouldn‘t happen. The picture book leads to a very cute ending. #ucflae3414f19

leximcmillin I would use this realistic fiction book as a RA because the expressions that Alexander and the supporting characters in the book can be really fun to use in the classroom. The UDL strategy I would relate to this book is 3.2, Highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships. I would use EL strategy #2, promote cooperation. I think it would help a lot for students to talk about that book with each other and say what they did or 3mo
leximcmillin didn‘t understand. Standard: https://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewStandard/Preview/5709 This is a cool lesson plan relating to theme that connects theme to songs rather than books! https://study.com/academy/popular/theme-lesson-plan.html 3mo
Jgolub13 I loved this book as a kid. I think your UDL aligns well with the book 3mo

ChrisC This looks like a very interesting and funny I can‘t wait to read it. 3mo
cassandram What an interesting book. I really liked how you would support this reading by highlighting the characters and big ideas. Seems fitting for this book. 3mo
ebrown This book is an absolute classic, and is relatable to every student. I love the lesson you chose too! 3mo
DrSpalding This is a classic. Good for you to find two resources! I like the use of music along with quality children‘s literature. This book is meant to be read aloud! I had a student recently perform an interactive read aloud where she provided the children with the map of Australia on a popsicle stick and every time Alexander said it, they all put up their stick and yelled Australia! Very very fun. 2mo
