"Trends that telegraph 'I don't read'" in the wsj this morning. That last point ?

I read some absurd article in here a few weeks ago about home designers trending putting books on shelves spine-IN, so the paper is showing. It's about a clean visual palate for the room, or whatever. But how can you tell where your books are??? Do you even read any of your books??? It's like the people in the second point! Fake book spines!

Anyways. #bookdrama

Lizpixie I watched one of those “home decorating” shows once, until the designer said “I use books as a focal point, I don‘t read them” The hubby found me swearing and yelling at the tv.🤬 #morondesigngurus (edited) 7y
WanderingBookaneer @Lizpixie : That hashtag! 😂 7y

tournevis @WanderingBookaneer @Lizpixie Indeed, that hashtag! 7y
ScrappyMags I switched to a Kindle but beside some fave books i gave my books away to students, the Purple Heart (for veterans) etc... I‘ve always loved the thought of the books changing hands, someone enjoying it and passing it to another 7y
ghosthost Love it! The snark after “DON‘T force a rainbow” nearly made tea come out of my nose. 7y
xicanti I hate the pages-out display "trend" because it's boring AND impractical. A double whammy of awful. (edited) 7y
Eyelit I‘d never heard of the spines in trend. Can‘t imagine any reader adopting that. So inefficient and aesthetically lacking! 7y
queerbookreader @Eyelit There was a whole article on it. People who do it were so offended by the criticism I'm like guys maybe there's all the criticism because it's a stupid way to store your books???? wholly impractical maybe?? Books on shelves is in itself a beautiful aesthetic, why bother trying to erase the presence of books for the sake of "design"? Don't you guys get it????? Anyways it was the most absurd thing I read all week 7y
queerbookreader @ghosthost I read that and me and my terrible self thought "like The Straights at pride" 7y
LeahBergen So much “yes” to all of these! 👏🏻👏🏻 7y
