How to Stop Time | Matt Haig
post image

@Jas16 Thanks for your #arcsforme #giveaway!

The last character I wanted to smack was Luke from “The Essex Serpent.” He writes a letter confessing his love to the heroine, calling her friendship “crumbs”, & basically complaining that he‘s been friend-zoned. Fortunately, she writes him back & gives him a verbal slap. 😅 Which, of course, she‘s then made to feel guilty about because how DARE a woman speak her mind? 🙄

Jas16 Further proof that I could not live in another era. I am incapable of not speaking my mind. Thank you for entering! 7y

First chapter in & this book is already upending my expectations. First, I assumed (maybe due to the “Hunger Games” comparison) that the first male character mentioned was going to be the female MC‘s love interest. Gwendolynn calls him an “asshole,” which I thought was setting up a cute love-hate dynamic. NOPE. (Shame on me!) Also, Lynn swears like a motherfucking sailor, traps her own animals & butchers her own kills. #cinnamonrollsnotgenderroles

MeganAnn Yes! Lynn is one of my favorite female characters because she is not at all what you expect. I think the Hunger Games reference is mostly because she can shoot/trap/hunt. Fun fact: my copy is from #pagehabit and is annotated by the author and the first note cheekily mentions how many time f*ck is said throughout the book - he counted. My husband borrowed it to a coworker otherwise I‘d take pictures of the annotated notes for you! 7y
monalyisha @MeganAnn Hahaha! I love that! If you remember to take a pic when you get the book back, I‘d love to be privy to that information. 7y
