Pickpick

Finished for my virtual foodie book club & enjoyed it. It‘s fun & food-filled as a chef is taken captive by a female pirate captain & must cook her a gourmet dinner each Sunday to stay alive. He gets quite creative with limited provisions & conditions on the ship. My bookish dish is this Potato, Cod, Garbanzo Bean & Saffron Stew, combining various ingredients from the book.

Thanks to @MeganAnn for including a copy in my #BWS box last month.🤗

ju.ca.no I‘ve also really enjoyed that one 😍 2y
TheBookHippie Looks wonderful! 2y
MeganAnn Looks delicious! I‘m so glad you liked the book! I first read it a few years ago because it was on @monalyisha ‘s list of favorites for #freakyfriday. It‘s one that‘s stayed with me ever since. 2y
monalyisha It‘s such a bizarre book but it‘s so good! Glad it‘s making the Litsy rounds, @MeganAnn! 2y

A fantastic #newyearwhodis list from @JackOBotts 🎉😍 I‘ve already read #1&3 - loved both. The tagged book is on my #newyearwhodis2022 list also & I read it last January because it was on @BarbaraJean ‘s list!

The top 3 pictured are already on my TBR list so I will definitely read those. I‘ve been meaning to read more Matt Haig books for years. I‘ve also been meaning to try Colson Whitehead. There is No Good Card looks fascinating & new to me ⬇️

BarbaraJean Ooooh, this looks like a great list! I‘m going to be stalking so many people‘s lists today!! 2y
MeganAnn The Cause of Freedom looks like it may be a difficult but important read and is also one I hadn‘t heard of previously. I‘m hoping to get to it as well at some point during 2022 if not in January - mostly depending on my mood and if I can mentally fit both that and Stamped in the same month. The Whispering Dead looks like a fun supernatural mystery type book I hadn‘t seen before and if time allows I hope to read that as well. 2y
MeganAnn Thanks @monalyisha for such an excellent match! You are a rockstar at matching up lists ✨🎉😍😘 (edited) 2y

MeganAnn @BarbaraJean right?! Me too! 2y
monalyisha You‘re so welcome! 🥰 2y
MeganAnn @Cinfhen I‘m very excited for that one! I had stacked it on litsy from someone‘s post (can‘t remember whose) a long time ago and then forgot about it. I‘m so glad @JackOBotts list has brought it back to my attention! 2y
monalyisha I actually didn't much like We Ride Upon Sticks. But it showed up on a lot of lists! I'm weirdly (maliciously? I hope not! 😅) looking forward to reading your review & seeing what camp you fall into. 2y
monalyisha I bought the Matt Haig for my MIL this Christmas. I hope it's great for your & for her sake! ;) My favorite of his is The Humans (which you may know...was that on your #FreakyFriday list? It feels like so long ago now). 2y
MeganAnn @monalyisha @Cinfhen We Ride Upon Sticks is on my TBR because of a lot of great reviews on Litsy… now I‘m curious on which camp I‘ll fall into as well! 2y
MeganAnn @monalyisha I haven‘t read The Humans, but I may have had The Radleys on my #freakyfriday list? I can‘t remember anymore, but that‘s the one of his I loved and keeps me thinking I really should read more of his stuff. I also loved his middle Christmas series starting with The Boy Who Saved Christmas. 2y
monalyisha Oh, I‘ve been meaning to check out that MG series! Maybe this December? 🤷‍♀️ 2y
monalyisha I bet you‘ll like We Ride Upon Sticks. I was probably just in a funk. 🙈 Still! The intrigue! 2y
MeganAnn @monalyisha it‘s a perfect quick December read! I saw Netflix recently released a movie based on the first book as well which is actually A Boy Called Christmas (my bad🤷‍♀️). Book 2 is The Girl Who Saved Christmas so I meshed them together in my head. 😆🤦🏻‍♀️ 2y
monalyisha I knew exactly what you meant! 😉 2y
monalyisha Ahem. I just stumbled upon my review of We Ride Upon Sticks & apparently I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. 😅 I remember being annoyed about a few things. It‘s funny that that‘s the memory/mood that persisted when I clearly really enjoyed so many other aspects. I wrote a fairly detailed review. 😆 My memory is so embarrassing. 🙈 2y
MeganAnn @monalyisha I just went back and found your review and other posts… love it! It is weird how sometimes the only thing I remember about reading a particular book is my mood or whatever was going on in life completely unrelated to the actual book.🤷‍♀️ One of the many reasons I reread so many of them. 2y
monalyisha Definitely eager(er) to discuss now that my mind is refreshed. 😉 2y
JackOBotts @MeganAnn - Yay! 🥳 I loved seeing the overlap on our lists and am so excited to plan a bit today! It‘s going to be tricky to wait till January! 😂 I can‘t wait to see your thoughts on these ready! I hope they don‘t disappoint!!!! 2y

#Movie2BookRecs #LetterC #CastAway

This book is hitting a lot of the themes for today: having Friday as a character, a C in the title for Crusoe, and an all around great book to read about a cast away.

#haunted #scarathlon2021 #teamhendrix

It‘s Friday & since this book of short stories about Southern witches includes one witha woman turning into a rose bush with pink flowers, I think it‘s a good pick for today‘s #FreakyFriday prompt. I read this story & one more during my desk-time poke bowl lunch.

On a separate note, for those taking part in #Scarathlon how do you count short stories? Is it by story or once you finish the book? 🤔

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks 🖤🙌🏻🧙🏻 2y
Read-y_Picker It‘s BY story so you don‘t have to finish the book 😁 2y
DebinHawaii @Read-y_Picker Oh cool! Do you know how many points per story directly related to team theme? I‘m sure it‘s probably written somewhere I just haven‘t noticed yet! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2y

Read-y_Picker @DebinHawaii 25 - directly related to halloween
15 - team theme
5 - all other books
2y
Read-y_Picker @DebinHawaii so when I read The Witch‘s Vacuum Cleaner, which ended up deceptively not having all that many stories to do with witches, I gave myself 6 stories worth of team points and the rest regular. 2y
Eggs Perfect 👌🏼🌹🥘👏🏻 (edited) 2y
