This is one of the worst books I‘ve read in memory. The first half is methodical in setting up a mystery—who is trying to kill the main character and why? But for typos, it‘s not bad. But then the writing gets sloppy and the author throws every possible twist, plot device, evil endeavor, everyone‘s the bad guy, in as few words as possible—sheer and utter chaos. The author wanted every conceivable plot line to happen but didn‘t take time and ⬇️

Texreader care to develop any of them. Trying to cram it all in, dialog is unrealistic as it tries to propel the story forward without actually having to tell the story. To add insult to injury she‘s thrown in sex scenes that border on gross. May I suggest, skip this one at all costs. #Curacao #readingtheamericas #scarathlon #batbrigade @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB @Catsandbooks (edited) 1y

Main character at the morgue and was told this. I‘ll just add: unless they‘re zombies, or the otherwise undead

Pickpick

I went into this with low expectations, as I don‘t really ‘do‘ witches, plus it‘s a prequel and I didn‘t know if it would stand alone. I only read it because part of it is set in #curacao, but I ended up really liking it. (And it‘s fine as a standalone)

I‘m not sure I would read any more of the rest of the series though, but this was certainly a pleasant surprise.

Caroline2 Every Halloween I plan to read this and then never get round to it. Like you, I‘m not sure on witch stories but sounds like I need to give it a go. 👍 1y
Librarybelle Oh! I did not know of the #ReadingTheAmericas2023 connection! I have a copy of this, so maybe I should plan to read it this year. 1y
BarbaraBB I didn‘t know either. Great suggestion 1y
