Some folks have shared that they are unhappy with Litsy not being as book-focused and happy as before. As many of you know, I, for one, have found it difficult to be Pollyanna Positive when the world seems to be crashing down upon us. I don‘t use any social media except Litsy, and some days I do need to rant—not just about politics but about life‘s annoyances and sufferings, and sharing human angst with my Litten friends really does help. ⬇️

dabbe From now one, though, I will use the hashtag #ranttime on any of my bigger rant posts, so if you don‘t want to ever hear me rant again, please block that hashtag, and you won‘t get my gripes, especially about the hell-weather that is Phoenix! 😂 If that‘s not sufficient enough and you need to unfollow me, please do so. I do not mean to offend anyone, but I can‘t pretend that the world is perfect either. ⬇️ 1w
dabbe ALL of us post about sadness, anger, hurt, etc. I think it‘s just the politics that have quite a few of us enraged. If others want to join me and use the same hashtag, that might alleviate some of our angst on all sides. And thank you to anyone who took the time to read this. 🩶💚🩶

P.S. I did post a dog picture of Joe Cool. That counts for some happiness, right? 🤗
1w
kspenmoll I love your idea. #ranttime it is. 🩷🩷🩷🩷 And Joe Cool is positive! (edited) 1w

Deblovestoread Thanks, Denise for posting this and giving us a hashtag. Litsy is more than books and reading. It‘s community, so the lines get blurred a bit. We cheer each other on, offer an ear when things are hard and buck each other up when the world is on fire. #ranttime (edited) 1w

AmyG @Deblovestoread Exactly! And thanks Miss @dabbe (edited) 1w
KadaGul @dabbe Most of us are adults, and we understand the importance of communicating thoughtfully and respectfully. I don't think any of us are callous. Nowadays, it feels like we offend someone every time we speak. It's especially concerning to see that many of the people we care about are facing marginalization and having their rights infringed upon. I love the idea 💡 of #RANTTIME. 1w
ncsufoxes Yup & yup! I think for those of especially that feel like our lives are under attack (mom of 3 neurodivergent kids, wife of oncology research scientist that works for NCI, mom of kid in college studying environmental sciences, being a woman). I don‘t want to be Debbie Downer either but it‘s hard to ignore what‘s going on when there is so much at stake for some of us (pretty much 90% of us). Also we have to speak up. Being silent is being 1w
ShelleyBooksie I still love Litsy ❤️😍 1w
ncsufoxes complicit & that is what they want. I won‘t be quiet & I won‘t back down because I have a f-in heart & I care too much about people. #ranttime is over…for now 1w
ShelleyBooksie And you @dabbe ♡ - rant away 1w
Aims42 Love the hashtag! Will use it also 👏 1w
Suet624 Sad to see that people can‘t relate to the anger/depression that a lot of us are experiencing. You would think a literary community would understand the significance of this moment. However, I appreciate what you‘re trying to do and I‘ll try to adhere to it. 1w
Librarybelle ❤️❤️❤️ Litsy has always been a source of comfort to me. We are in very trying times, and reading itself has become a political issue. There have been comments for years over the lack of reading content on Litsy, and I have admittedly muted a hashtag or two when certain posts have become a bit much. As @Deblovestoread , we‘re a community. It‘s good to have a hashtag—I may have to use it the next time I feel like screaming over current events! 1w
dabbe @KadaGul 👊🏻❣️👊🏻 1w

dabbe @Suet624 I can't say I'll be perfect by any means, and I totally hear what you're saying. 🎯🎯🎯 I guess I'm giving people a way to only see happy things if they want to, though I have no idea how that's possible in this current environment. #ranttime 👊🏻❣️👊🏻 1w
dabbe @Librarybelle The hashtags are really helpful during #Scarathlon and #WinterGames, aren't they? 🤣 This place is a place of comfort for me, too, and the fact that we can share good/bad/ugly and receive the utmost support says so much about the people in this community. But I can't pretend things in the world are great, and I can't not post when I need support. 👊🏻❣️👊🏻 1w
dabbe @Librarybelle And use away!!! #ranttime anytime! I'll be happy to listen and support! 💚🩶💚 1w

AnnCrystal I'm good with variety posts too...of course, I'm rather new here on Litsy (when compared to many Littens) and only know the Litsy as it has been since my joining this magical community.

I find Litsy a safe place, a gathering place that serves a community of members like a mom and pop bookstore. We recognize one another if we visit often. We learn about one another, celebrate each other, offer emotional support, etc.

👇

1w
AnnCrystal Also, as a community of readers, teachers, and creatives, I believe it is important for us to keep each other informed in our crazy world. We are the ones the suppressors try to silence out in the real world.

Litsy has become a home on the world wide web. Thank you and all the Littens who make this place absolutely wonderful 🫂📚💝.

LiseWorks Well, now #Ranttime is a really awesome idea. I am always ready to listen and know I'm not the only one feeling like the world is going to shits. 1w
DogMomIrene I like non-reading posts, incl political ones. To me, Litsy is such a diverse group of thinkers. I want to know what other people are experiencing & how they‘re feeling about the world turning to 💩 under a fascist. My dogs are named Bernie & Lizzie, after the Senators. I started our move to 🇨🇦 after Kavanaugh was confirmed & it was obvious we lost the SC. I love the hashtag for allies experiencing fatigue, but any MAGAts here can unfollow me. 1w

CSeydel Well TIL that you can mute hashtags in Litsy 😆 1w
CSeydel (I still can‘t figure out how to do it, but it‘s nice to know I theoretically could!) 1w
Hooked_on_books I don‘t think that‘s a necessary action, but it‘s kind of you to do. I feel reading is resistance and political and don‘t mind at all. When people post a lot about their personal lives instead of books, I just tend not to follow them. It‘s so easy to unfollow someone if their content isn‘t to one‘s liking. It‘s too bad people feel the need to rant about what others write. When it‘s your own account, I say write whatever you want/need. 1w
Bookwomble @CSeydel You can mute tags on the website, I dint think you can do it in the app 🙂 1w
Bookwomble Litsy is the only social media site I use (and Goodreads a little bit from habit), and it's been incredibly positive for my mental health that I've come off Twitter and Facebook. I can't say that I've noticed you ranting, Deb, but perhaps our rantings mesh so that it just seems like rational discourse to me 😄 I think I've only come across one Trumpian Litten, who blocked me (world's smallest 🎻). I won't be blocking your tag 😊 1w
Bookwomble The only tags I've blocked relate to an incredibly popular and (imho) overrated notorious billionaire transphobe. What is it about billionaires and their shitty attitudes? 🤷🏻‍♂️ 1w
Amiable @Hooked_on_books @ncsufoxes I feel the same. If people don‘t like my posts if/when they stray into rants about the hellscape unfolding around us, unfollow me. It won‘t hurt my feelings. I can‘t bury my head in the sand and pretend there‘s nothing horrible happening around us. (OMG, I think I just ranted about #ranttime. 😳😀) Denise, you have a kind heart. I‘m grateful to have found you here. ❤️ 1w
kspenmoll @DogMomIrene Canada is so lucky to have you. I am happy you are able to move. 1w
kspenmoll @Amiable So well stated. Thank you. We need each other now.❤️ 1w
kspenmoll @Bookwomble Happy we have found like minded people here. By nature & politics, books are political- why would have so many been burned over the centuries if not so? 1w
kspenmoll @Librarybelle @💕💕💕💕 1w
kspenmoll @ncsufoxes 👍🏻👍🏻 1w
DogMomIrene @kspenmoll Thank you! We love it here. It‘s not perfect, but more people here ask “what do we owe one another” than “what‘s in it for me?” And I definitely feel like our taxes go to services that help, support, and connect people. 1w
bthegood “Every man of humane convictions must decide on the protest that best suits his convictions, but we must all protest.” (Martin Luther King Jr.)
-like @Bookwomble this is my only social media - I enjoy the way people express themselves here - so
#ranttime no judgement on how you need and want to express yourself - glad you are a part of my Litsy world -

TheLudicReader The alternative to ranting is to keep that shit inside and that‘s not healthy. The world is a dumpster fire right now and as my grandfather used to say “better an empty house than a bad tenant”. I think he was talking about farts, but sometimes you just gotta let one of those farts/rants rip. I will not be blocking the tag. Litsy is still a happy place for me. 😘😘😘 1w

dabbe @CSeydel I don't know about the Litsy app, but from the website, if you click on your Profile icon, you can then click on “Settings/Import.“ At the very bottom of that page, there's a place that says “Mute hashtags.“ You can then type in exactly which hashtags you'd like to mute. 🤩 1w

Julsmarshall Well said all! If your privilege allows you to look away while others in our community are being attacked, lucky you. The rest of us may need to rant, cry, support, and lift up others and I‘m here to applaud and take part in that. The_Penniless_Author Amen @dabbe. Litsy is such a great community because of how thoughtful, kind, and supportive its users are. There are a lot of people on here going through difficult times right now, and it's at times like this that such a community is most needed. I love reading for lots of reasons - entertainment and escape, yes, but also to learn and to increase empathy for others. If we can't apply these lessons in the real world, what was all the reading for? 1w
TheBookHippie @The_Penniless_Author 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 1w
DebinHawaii I love your post & totally agree. Reading is resistance & I love the supportive community on Litsy & how much so many care about others & each other. Although books bring us together, community is what makes many of us stay. I won‘t be blocking/muting your hashtag. The world we live in is a shitshow & we all are facing our own difficulties so ranting is needed as much as finding joy. I appreciate you and this post. 💛💛💛 1w
Read4life @dabbe @TheBookHippie I‘ve seen your posts about speaking up and unfollowing. I know I‘ve been on infrequently as I don‘t have the greatest connection here in the VI but I have missed the posts complaining about non book related posts. I either don‘t follow them or I‘ve just skipped over them. Isn‘t that akin to banning books? I mean, if you don‘t like it… don‘t read it. Right? Pet posts, life updates, etc are often not book related & they are ⬇️ 1w
Read4life quite popular. I find your hashtag amusing, @dabbe , but wish you didn‘t even have to think of one. Express yourself!!! I learn so much from people on here & have had important issues & upcoming changes brought to my attention through Litsy. Thank you, both, for being a big part of why I enjoy & treasure Litsy. 💙💙💙 1w

Alora I feel this! Litsy, goodreads and snapchat are the only social media I have. I deactivated everything else and it's been wonderful! I don't post very often here though because I stick to posting books and I'm a slow reader lol 😆 7d
dabbe @Alora I bet you're not a slow reader. You're someone who relishes every word. Big difference! 💚🩶💚 7d
MemoirsForMe I‘ve been on Litsy for 9 years and this community has been such a caring and comforting place. We‘ve been there for each other thru a lot already…the pandemic, times of grief, health issues and many ups and downs. I don‘t consider these rants, I consider this being real and authentic. And that‘s who I want to hang out with here, especially during these difficult and scary times. You‘ve got my support! 👊🏻❤️ 7d
Cuilin I didn‘t read all the comments so somebody may have made this point already but books and reading are political. I approve this message, rant away.💗 7d
dabbe @MemoirsForMe TY! 👊🏻❣️👊🏻 6d
dabbe @Cuilin How can they not be, right? Let's all rant away when we need to! 👊🏻❣️👊🏻 6d
Alora @dabbe awe yes I love that!! I definitely do savor every word. I'll reread a sentence multiple times if I dont fully understand it or grasp the picture of it 6d
dabbe @Alora As a retired high school English teacher, what I wouldn't have given if my students had done more of that! 🤩🤣🤗 6d
Catsandbooks You keep being you Deb! Rant away! I'll be right there with you! Communities are supposed to support one another especially during difficult times. To be there for the good and bad. If people don't like something, then they can grow up and scroll on. Keep up the good fight! ✊🏼🔥❤️ 6d
The_Book_Ninja 69 Comments?!? The support for non-literary posts on Litsy that you have garnered under this post has given me the confidence to post a really tasteful photo I have of myself laying on my tummy, on a faux fur rug in front of a crackling fireplace, totally naked except for a strategically placed blanket and a cheeky looking-over-my-glasses, come-hither expression while reading 50 Shades of Grey. National Poetry Month is April in the USA and October in the UK

I wanted to do an extra poetry focused thing for #QueerBC. I could do 2 but I'm also concerned that October often has #Scarathlon and other reading challenges. It could be a bit much!

So, April, October, or both?

TheBookHippie Do both we‘ll need it… 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w

I‘ve gotten a lot of points this week just from doing the #wordsearch for #hauntedshelf, counting the 1 hour of reading for the #noplacelikeholmes readalong and counting the spooky or autumn reads. It‘s a lot to track and keep up with and I‘m also reading Netgalley ARCs. During #scarathlon last year, using the Autofill feature saved me a lot of time when I was filling in my spreadsheet all month so I‘m definitely using Autofill again.

I‘m participating in #spookoween hosted by @TheSpineView and the #hauntedshelf hosted by @PuddleJumper this month. I‘m on team #skeletoncrew. I have 67 Netgalley ARCs to read and I‘ll try to read as many of those as I can and try to earn points for my team by doing the word search like I did during #scarathlon. I‘m participating in the #noplacelikeholmes readalong and the #whimsicalreadsbookclub so I have a lot going on this month with reading.

#HauntedShelf @Jadams89 @PuddleJumper #FrightClub

Hi, I didn't see an answer to this question on the FAQ page:
Can a book count for multiple spots on the same BINGO card? For example, if I read a book and on the AFTER DARK card it has magic, a monster, a summoning, and includes fate, can I mark four spots with that one book? We could do that on #Scarathlon, but I'm just double-checking for this year. Thanks. 🎃

Jadams89 I think it depends on if the maker of the Bingo states that they only apply for one. I didn‘t for #ItsATrope, so it works for me if you use the same book for multiple prompts. 5mo
dabbe @Jadams89 Most don\'t have directions, though; it\'s just the bingo board and that\'s it. 5mo
Jadams89 I‘ll see what the other team leads think 5mo
See All 13 Comments
TEArificbooks You would probably have to ask each bingo host. For #witchathon one book can count for multiple spots. 5mo
Jadams89 I think if it‘s on Litsy, you should ask the host— if it‘s a random one found elsewhere, I think it‘s fine to assume you can use one book for multiple spaces 5mo
AnnCrystal This is a good question! @TheSpineView, can we mark multiple prompts with one book on the #SpookOWeen board? Thanks 😊💝. 5mo
PuddleJumper It's personal preference for all my boards/challenges. You can double dip if you want. You know how many books you can realistically read, I don't want to put people off playing because they think they need to read 25 books 5mo
AnnCrystal @PuddleJumper 📚😎👍💝. 5mo
TheSpineView @AnnCrystal Yes, a book can be used on more than one square! 5mo
AnnCrystal Perfect 👏 thanks @TheSpineView 🥳👍💝. 5mo

DebinHawaii Great question @dabbe ! I didn‘t know we could use one book for multiple prompts! 🤗 5mo
dabbe @DebinHawaii I\'m so glad, too! I didn\'t think I\'d be able to swing 25 books for 25 different bingo prompts! 🤩😂🤗 5mo

My #Recommendation for #HauntedShelf is Slewfoot. I read it last year for #Scarathlon & really enjoyed the dark tale of Abitha, who is fighting against the puritanical community she married into when she meets Samon/Slewfoot the newly awakened devil. Very atmospheric & perfect for the spooky season. 🍁🪄🌘
