Last question for December's book! (We hope you had a happy holiday!)

In your opinion, do Bex and Jack get the happily-ever-after?

#decfyabc #fyabookclub

BrandiNB I like to imagine Bex and Jack living long happy lives together. Their families have already grown close and everything! 8y
ForeverYoungAdult Same, @BrandiNB! I think they're good for each other (and by extension, their families are, too). ☺️ – mc 8y

Time for another discussion question!

Bex and Jack have an immediate attraction to each other, both physically and emotionally. Did Bennett make their immediate attraction believable, or did it feel like instalove?

#decfyabc #fyabookclub

BookNerdBritt I'm not much of a romance reader, so the meet-cute made me roll my eyes a little bit, but as long as the characters are developed beyond just making 😍 at each other, it's all good. (edited) 8y
ForeverYoungAdult @BookNerdBritt I liked the whole "infatuation" at first sight thing, because I think we've all experienced purely physical attraction and/or intrigue with a stranger. – mc (edited) 8y
BrandiNB Certainly the immediate physical attraction and chemical reaction is believable; their relationship and feelings for each other deepened rather quickly, but it didn't seem like totally out of the blue "instalove." 8y

Time for a discussion question!

How do you feel about street art and graffiti, and the way Jack created his? Is it unethical because someone is using another person's property as a canvas, is it okay because art should push boundaries, both, or something else entirely?

#decfyabc #fyabookclub

[DELETED] 206653737 I think ultimately graffiti is destruction of property, but that being said I've seen some graffiti that's absolutely beautiful. 8y
Jas16 I love all of the colorful murals and art in the walls in San Francisco. I do get really cranky about tagging especially when we get fined by the city to clean up our building walls at work over and over. 8y
ForeverYoungAdult Therein lies the catch-22, @bookish22, at least for me. I love looking at the art, but realize that it's wrong to do it ... I also think there's a line between graffiti art and tagging for tagging's sake. – mc (edited) 8y

[DELETED] 206653737 @Jas16 defiantly see that side of things, especially if your footing the bill to get it cleaned up. And yes @ForeverYoungAdult it is a catch-22 and agree on the tagging thing. 8y
skullsinthesea Same, @jas16! The murals are gorgeous, the tagging is not. 8y
BrandiNB I don't have strong opinions on the topic either way, but generally I agree that murals are more acceptable than tagging. My boyfriend is an artist and he is obsessed with graffiti so I'm paying more attention to it than I have previously. Haven't seen anything particularly beautiful so far. :( 8y

Let's ease into this month's questions with an icebreaker! (No book spoilers on this post, please.)

Has a piece of art or an artist ever made a big impact on you? Tell us about it!

#decfyabc

mandyannecurtis I'll start! I'm Mandy C. From FYA. Growing up, my aunt instilled in me a love of the Impressionists, particularly Monet. The way their paintings look a mess from up close, but so stunning from afar never ceases to amaze me. 8y
BookNerdBritt I love photography, and Diane Arbus's work has a special place in my heart. 8y
skullsinthesea @BookNerdBritt I am also a huge fan of Diane Arbus! 8y
skullsinthesea I am a big art fan, especially late medieval and Renaissance works, but there's usually something for me in every movement. I share a birthday with Rene Magritte, and I cried when I saw Starry Night and The Persistence of Memory at the NYC MOMA. Dave McKean (Sandman) is my favorite contemporary artist--so eerie and twisted. 8y
