Finished this #audiobook during the last morning in 2020. Even had to shush my mom because she was talking during the last 5 minutes. 😳🙊 This book focuses more on character building than the mystery plot. One of my favorite literary themes is loneliness, and it's featured heavily here. This reader appreciated it. 💙🥲 #dw2020reads

A cute "cook" book with plenty of pictures to fuel brainstorming. I liked that the variety of ingredients and that there are candy houses for all seasons - not just red & green Christmas cottages. I tried the recipe for frosting-glue which turned out rich and tasty plus strong for construction. #dw2020reads

This is a fairly ordinary biography spanning 3-generations but written under extraordinary circumstances. Since the author has degrees in pyschology and trauma, I was expecting more psycho-analysis. Still interesting, not as clinical as I had anticipated.

Of the many Trump tell-alls, this is a good choice if you're reading only one. It avoids political cattiness and goes deeper into history - familial and regional. (continued...) #dw2020reads

cozypunk (...) As an accompaniment, also read the New York Times investigation into 'the President's Taxes' published in Oct 2018. Turns out, the author is a source for that exposé. 4y

Not for everyone, but I have a soft spot for turn-of-the-century sci-fi. It starts slow, has irracisble characters, and overly verbose tangets, but TBH, I liked those flaws. And I was delighted and surprised by several character moments (pictured). It's colonialist roots and western-civilization superiority-complex obviously don't age well. Recommended for fans of Sherlock Holmes (same author), Jules Verne, or survival stories. #dw2020reads

This was the year I finally read Harry Potter aloud to my family! My love language 🥰

Except, I didn't finish it. My kids decided I couldn't read fast enough and finished it themselves in two days. Plus, we bought an extra copy to resolve taking turns! Then... covid. While quaranting, I let the #audiobook read to me. A treat since I'd never heard Jim Dale's performance. On this #reread , ch 6 was my favorite - meeting the Wealseys.

While the title is about a geographical place, this turns out to be a biography of Percy Fawcett, a 1900s British explorer obsessed with the Amazon. If you don't want a biography, then skip. If you're into turn-of-the century settings or explorer adventures, give it a go. (Continued in next comment) #dw2020reads

cozypunk ... Overall, I found this deeply interesting but slightly hard to follow. I was transported to another time and place, but it's not memorable enough to recommend *everyone.* I would recommend to readers who are already interested in British history, exploration, or man-made effects on the rainforest. 4y
BoldCityBooks I just finished this book and I agree. The subject matter is interesting but I found it presented in a very monotonous boring manner. 2y

Half photo book, half inspirational quotes. It's wholesome content presented in an disjointed way. For example, my photo shows a quote from one celebrity talk show host but juxtaposed with a different host. All the pages are like this: photos are not from the same context as the text. A nice, generic book made *about* Michelle, not made *with* her. #dw2020reads

This #YA novel had many of the things I love in comics: quick pacing, plenty of action, different flavors of villians, personal moral struggles, high stakes, and a slew of interesting supporting characters. This origin story is different because Danny's (the teen main character) family dynamic affects her superhero-ness just as much as her brand-new super powers. I'll be reading the 2nd right away in '21! #dw2020reads #lgbtq+

A biography of the Carlisle School for Indians and their innovative football team, including Jim Thorpe - the first world-famous athlete of color. Don't know about football's early history? OR don't know about the US Govt's cultural annihilation of Native Americans under the pretense of boarding schools? You'll learn something either way! Both are unqiuely American, and both shape modern American life, for better and for worse. #dw2020reads

Today, I had so much to catch up on... thankfully, I ditched most it for this brilliant story. Read this emotional rollercoaster in one sitting - which is something I haven't done in a long time. So many characters to get invested in! Thank you for the book hangover, Angie. #dw2020reads #ebook
