2.5/5
If it had been marketed as fiction, my rating would have been higher.
But read as a fiction, this book is emotional and interesting, it's a nice story about the friendship between an elephant and his caretaker. The main thing that bothered me while reading it was the lack of chronological elements. Also, a lack of nuances in describing the bad characters (very manichean). Too much pathos at times, but I learned a lot about elephants.

One of my favorite middle grade novels was Counting by 7's by Holly Goldberg Sloan. This one was equally as sweet and hopeful. A good read for any kid who feels different or has issues in their life well out of their control.

This is another story that shows the journey of piggy and gerald. In this story, piggy is convinced that she is a frog and gerald has to convince her that she is not a frog. They go through an adventure to try and get piggy to realize that she is not a frog but a pig.

Good story with great illustrations. I liked when he ended up living with the old lady

“My good friends we are seeking a King. Why not choose Babar?“ I loved this quote because it shows Babar's resilience after going through such loss of his mother.

I would use this in my classroom to have tough discussions of death and loss.

The Story of Babar by Jean Brunhoff is a great book for children. This book was published in 1931. It goes through the tragedy of an elephant whose mother dies from a hunter. Later the elephant returns to the jungle and becomes the king. I loved the illustrations as there were a lot of them.
