From the New York Times bestselling author of Counting by 7s comes a heartfelt story about "the importance of compassion and bravery when facing lifes challenges (Kirkus) for fans of The One and Only Ivan and Front Desk. It's been almost a year since Sila's mother traveled halfway around the world to Turkey, hoping to secure the immigration paperwork that would allow her to return to her family in the United States. The long separation is almost impossible for Sila to withstand. But things change when Sila accompanies her father (who is a mechanic) outside their Oregon town to fix a truck. There, behind an enormous stone wall, she meets a grandfatherly man who only months before won the state lottery. Their new alliance leads to the rescue of a circus elephant named Veda, and then to a friendship with an unusual boy named Mateo, proving that comfort and hope come in the most unlikely of places. A moving story of family separation and the importance of the connection between animals and humans, this novel has the enormous heart and uplifting humor that readers have come to expect from the beloved author of Counting by 7s.

One of my favorite middle grade novels was Counting by 7's by Holly Goldberg Sloan. This one was equally as sweet and hopeful. A good read for any kid who feels different or has issues in their life well out of their control.

3✨ I have very mixed feelings about this book. It is all over the place in regards to points of view. Mateo is autistic and the acceptance that Sila has as they navigate their friendship is the best part of this book. I was unsure of the elderly Gio and the fast friendship between him and Sila. As a mom of girls I felt uneasy. There was concern shown with their parents at first. While there is an elephant in the book it isn‘t in the story much.

July?! Where did you come from? I did really well with my yoga practice this last month and not so much everything else. So this month I am going to continue to do my yoga, read more, and do dishes every night. If I can keep the dishes in order I‘ll feel better about making healthier meals more often. 🥰💛 #BFC2022 @wanderinglynn

wanderinglynn Way to go! 🙌🏻 Great goals for July! 3y

I woke up coughing because of a bad dust storm that blew through. Fun fact: a haboob is a really bad dust storm that similar to fog carried in by high winds. Fun fact # 2: that is the name of the mummy in the Brenden Fraser film. Anyways I‘ve been reading and not liking this book I was reading to try to fall back asleep. The writing is pretty much all over the place. Jumps from character to character, and more. I‘ll see if I finish it.

My oldest had her dance recital last night, and another one this afternoon. This is her baby doll, Rosie, supporting her. I‘ll be working concessions this afternoon so maybe I can read a little of the tagged while the show is on. 💛

Ruthiella Rosie looks like she is much loved! 3y
