I really enjoyed this YA version of Mulan. You can definitely tell that the author did a lot of research about the history because the details really bring this story to life.

Full of adventure, fun, and lots of heart.

This was my last read for Feb. I thought it was an interesting way to explore the Beauty and the Beast story. It is YA, so some of the typical tropes are present, but they aren't used so heavily that it distracted me from the story or the characters.

I will probably continue with the trilogy to see how it all plays out.

TheSpineView I loved the first two books but thought the third fell a little short. Hope you enjoy the next one. 2y
Addison_Reads @TheSpineView well that's a little disappointing about the third book. I'll pick up the second book next week on my library trip. I need to know what happens with Grey. 😁 2y
TheSpineView @Addison_Reads Yes! Grey was my favorite character! 2y

This is stated as being a Snow White retelling. It has some elements of that story, but this really is its own tale.

I enjoy this author's writing style, but I know she isn't for everyone. I was not a fan of the big reveal at the end or how the author handled it. She could have used it as a platform to say something positive, but instead she just tossed it out there without explanation really.

vivastory I find Oyeyemi is a bit hit and miss for me 2y
