Pickpick

A YA political thriller that I read #forclass. And when I say I read it, I mean I ate it up with a spoon. The plot and the characters are both so smart and it reminded me of the Ally Carter books I loved reading in high school. Now excuse me while I read the sequel ASAP (and when I say ASAP, I mean as soon as my next paper is done).

MarriedtoMrT I loved this book with all my heart until the sequel came along. The Long Game is even better if you can imagine. 8y

A quick read #forclass that also falls nicely into #spooktober. Like Frankenstein and Dracula, this is a story that exists one way in popular consciousness and another way in the source material. A strange, psychological novella shrouded in creepy Victorian London fog, and very much recommended.

Susannah I love what you've said here about how these stories exist in popular consciousness versus the source material. For me, this was especially true of Frankenstein. I wanted to pitch Victor off the nearest bridge when I read Frankenstein for the first time last year. I feel like his rejection of the creature is way downplayed in popular culture. What a jerk. 8y
frankincense_and_sensibility Right?! And like, there are all these turning points in the narrative where he could have not been a jerk and he chose to be one anyway. Like when he talks about how he hates how ugly the monster is, as if he didn't SEE IT ASSEMBLED ON THE TABLE before he reanimated it. 8y

Sorry I've been less active recently, Littens. The semester's got me running like crazy BUT I have a backlist of finished books to review this weekend.
