Centique @Jeg @batsy when I was a teenager Weldon was very popular so it seemed very grown up to read her! I read Puffball and The Heart of the Country back then but I‘m not sure I‘ve read any since. I will look up the one you mention @batsy it sounds good 😊 2y

I found such a cool bookshop today - stumbled upon it while getting my daughter a bag for University - it doesn‘t have a listing in the database but this is pretty close. It‘s named after the Elizabeth Goudge book @LeahBergen and it‘s got a great selection of vintage childrens books. Book haul to follow! #greendolphin #secondhandbooks

Ruthiella I read The Green Dolphin. 1/2 takes place in NZ, though Goudge had never been there. 2y

rockpools Seriously! It looks like my childhood bookshelf transported itself through time and space, and wound up in NZ! (Kind of 😂😂 - but we owned a good few of those, in these editions!) 2y

rockpools THE PINBALLS! Random fact, if I remember right, they use mayonnaise in their cake-baking. Which always struck me as odd. 2y

rockpools @Centique Did you ever read Betsy Byars? She tended to write very ‘issues‘y stuff, so not a barrel of laughs - I think this was set in a children‘s home or the care system. But it definitely stuck! Down to remembering ridiculous details… (I‘m probably thinking of a totally different book now 🤔) 2y
