I read a lot of great books in February so hard to choose just one, but this book has stayed with me and I want to read it again, so has just got the edge on the others. #12Booksof2022 #February

Great as audiobook read by Trevor Noah himself.

Other notable mentions

The Paris Network - Siobhan Curham (perfect for fans of Kate Quinn)
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind - William Kamkwamba
This is The Night They Come For You - Robert Goddard

Deifio I read it a couple of years ago. I loved it too! 1y
Andrew65 @Deifio Not a great one for memoirs but this was brilliant. 1y
Deifio @Andrew65 Oh I agree! I already gifted it, because I liked it so much and the person I gifted was always very interested in South Africa. 1y

Andrew65 @dabbe That is terrible!!! In fact I don‘t think I can sum up the words for that. 😡 (edited) 1y
dabbe @Andrew65 Love the (edited) part! 😂 Our district had a major kerfuffle last year at our high school with the book SO YOU'VE BEEN PUBLICLY SHAMED being assigned to the AP JUNIORS! Our principal even got fired, and our English Department Chair was demoted. Every year I would read HUCKLEBERRY FINN with my juniors, I'd wear a shirt that stated “I teach banned books, and I'm proud of it!“ I was so proud of my district for that. Not anymore. 😕 1y
willaful @dabbe Disgusting! My daughter had it assigned in high school, which I thought was just brilliant. It teaches so much, while being funny and interesting. 1y
Andrew65 @dabbe @willaful What does it say about those areas that think this should be banned. Says far more bout them, but also says a lot about society. This is an important book that everyone should experience. 1y
dabbe @Andrew65 Especially since their first “official“ book back in school was THE SCARLET LETTER. What discussions were opened up while reading that! The district now has to have written approval for every single item any teacher wants to read that is not part of the textbook adoption (StudySync), and if it's a novel and it's not on the novel list, you can NEVER teach it. Period. 1y
dabbe @willaful So true! And I'm sure your daughter lived through it, and her innocence wasn't lost (like this parent stated). 1y
Andrew65 @dabbe That is truly scandalous and censorship at its worst. Who makes those decisions and what gives them the right to make those decisions in a so-called free and Democratic society. 1y
willaful @dabbe I was literally thinking, as I commented, about how in high school I had to read The Scarlet Letter and what a useless experience that was. How could I possibly understand or relate to whatever value that book has at 16? 1y
