I am not too proud to say that I read these two children‘s books because I needed a boost to my yearly book count. I have children in my life who would likely enjoy these and OF COURSE I should read them before I buy, yes? And one of them has PIE 🥧 so I am thrilled to say these were good books! 🤩

marleed One book away from the AP canon! Congrats! I‘m several years into working my way back through the John Grisham canon. I‘ve been able to keep up with his new releases but my thrifted JG backlog is just not as shiny as so many newly released books! 6mo

Humans: A Brief History of How We F*cked It All Up | Tom Phillips

This is a fun, very funny history book about stupid things humans have done through history. With chapter titles like, “Why Your Brain is an Idiot,” and stories including a German Uboat in WWII undone by a toilet malfunction, I snort-laughed all the way through this one.

Planning for the coming school year, and this book has me thinking about my kids and what they need. This quote caught me:
Abdul asks, "Why write his stories anyway? The people and places in his school books never looked or sounded like the people or places he knew." I love that Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow is changing the world one book at a time. I can't wait to hear what the kids think!

I had no idea what this book would be about and loved that it's a story about a student who struggles. I struggle. I see kids struggle. And there's always someone who persists, "it's so easy!" Which just crushes you. Never say it's easy. Never say it's hard. Not if it's necessary.

The Artist | Ed Vere

Ed Vere‘s self-illustrated picture book conveys all the joy and creativity of making art and how it doesn‘t really matter if you stick within the lines or not. I enjoyed the colours and the way he conveys the excitement of sharing ideas and the artist‘s horror and embarrassment at not doing it “properly”. This is one of those books that would really encourage young readers to express themselves through art, which is a great message to take away.
