Jonny is a 2-spirit “NDN glitter princess.” He leaves his northern Manitoba rez for life in Winnipeg, where he finds other queers, but faces new difficulties, including the constant racism that‘s a fact of life for #Indigenous folk in Canadian cities. Jonny is a memorable character with a fresh & gritty voice: funny & heartbreaking, with lyrical & coarse language that‘s sprinkled with Cree words & colloquialisms. #LGBTQ #nativebooks 🇨🇦

pgh.femme Ooooh. This is exciting! 6y

LeahBergen This is such a stunning cover, too. 6y
Lindy @LeahBergen I like it too, even though I would rather see a different font. The cover design is by Oliver McPartlin. The art is by Erin Konsmo. 6y
Dragon I was driving to work a few weeks ago and heard the author on Sheila Rogers show on the CBC. A very interesting interview 👍 6y
Lindy @Dragon I should re-listen, now that I‘ve read the book. (I subscribe to the podcast edition of The Next Chapter.) 6y

Another excellent novel by Thomas King. He weaves corporate greed and environmental destruction into a whimsical at times, apocalyptic almost-fairytale about grief, loss, and resurgence. I stayed up too late reading it two nights in a row. I just didn't want to put it down! #Nativebooks

Billypar Great novel! And on a side note, Roth must really love Erdrich- he blurbed Plague of Doves also, and I can't even remember seeing Roth blurbs for other authors. 7y
JazzFeathers @Billypar l started it on my travel to work and it's so good. I can't wait to be home tonight and keep reading! 7y

Heaps of humour, a monster based on #Indigenous folklore, gender issues, great characters, and the gritty realism of contemporary life on a reserve in Saskatchewan: this novel has all kinds of good stuff going for it. I enjoyed it very much. #CanadianAuthor #NativeBooks #OwnVoices

The cover art is by Aaron Paquette, an artist, author, and also an elected city councillor in Edmonton. Eye catching, even as a tiny ebook image on my phone. #nativebooks #Indigenousauthors

I'm biased because this author is a dear friend but it's an absolutely gorgeous read. Poetry, prose, sardonic wit and deep truths about being Native in Canada. It look me a long time to read it because I kept re-reading it. I adored this one! #Nativebooks #queerbooks

Haven't read it yet. I know it will be very similar to Momaday, it will be very spiritual, and l'm kind of intimidated. But l will come to it 😊

readordierachel This was my pick too! I've heard great things about it. 8y
batsy I have this one too. It does sound intimidating but so good. 8y
JazzFeathers @ReadOrDieRachel lt is a classic, this much l know. Maybe that's part of what intimidates me. But l will get to it! 8y

Very visionary, strongly spiritual, this is the Native novel l had more difficulties getting into. I'm also not very familiar with the Pueblo cultures, which didn't help.
I'm sure l missed a lot between the lines, but what a did catch was very powerful, the story of a veteran serching for his true self in so many different ways.
Loved it.
