Botchan gives a sneak peek into the Japan from it's era. I could not connect to the book though. Excruciatingly slow pace. It would have been wonderful if read in it's original language. Wordplay puns and colloquial references seem to be a tool that the author resorted to often. In conclusion, the book's charm was lost in translation.
My recommendation : Read it in Japanese or find a better translation.

I‘m almost done with DOTSQ, & I gotta say that if you enjoyed the 1st book, U‘ll love this because holy shit it‘s much better. The 1st was pretty good as it is.
After finishing that, I can really dive into Sōseki‘s book with my full focus!

SUPER excited to read this! It‘s for my Japanese Novel & Light Novel GR group read. We‘re going to start it on Sunday! I‘ve read the first volume of it before, & I absolutely loved it. Looking forward to finishing it this time. Sōseki is one of my favourite authors of all-time.
