I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

I adored this trilogy. Beautiful, lush, historical fiction. This one is set in China in the lead-up to the Opium Wars. Great characters & rich, propulsive story told with warmth from Bengal, Indian & Chinese perspectives. A real insight into the time. Evokes the colours, food & mix of cultures in Canton as a thriving port city. A wonderful immersive read.

LeeRHarry I enjoyed this trilogy too, learnt a lot 😊 1y

Absolutely riveting. I couldn‘t put it down. If I had a time machine I would leap to 19th Century China immediately. I can‘t wait to read everything else Rutherfurd has ever written.

As the first book in the series, I enjoyed how Ghosh set the scene with this book and delved into the characters.
I have the second book on hand (though I don't know when I will get to it) but I have read some reviews and am unsure if I will like how the series continues....

merelybookish Haha I read this book this year, and felt the same. Just not sure I wanted to read on even though I enjoyed this one. 2y
Smarkies @merelybookish 😂😂😂 such an odd reaction no? 2y
LeeRHarry I finished this series last year and it was a bit of a slog tbh but I was determined 😏 2y
Smarkies @LeeRHarry ahhhhhh! This makes me really in doubt whether to continue. 😂😂😂 I may just do book 2 since I have it on hand. 2y

A Black sailor from the US, a Hindu widow, a disgraced Raja, an orphaned French girl, a Muslim boatman, a Chinese pirate, just a few of the characters brought together by fate and opium on board the Ibis as it sails from Calcutta to Mauritius in 1838. How they come together is the premise of this first book in a trilogy, which is full rich back stories, sailor jargon & Indian dialects. A compelling read. Has anyone read the series? I'm undecided.

merelybookish My #bookspin for February. Glad to have cleared it off the deck. @TheAromaofBooks 2y
Ruthiella I‘ve also only read the first book. 2y
merelybookish @Ruthiella For some reason it feels like a big commitment to keep going. Even tho I liked this one. 2y

Caught a bit of the sunset. The days are starting to lengthen and it feels good. 🙌
Spent a lot of today reading/listening:
📗Sea of Poppies
🎧Libertie
Hoping to finish them both by Monday.

vivastory I see that I rated the Ghosh a pick, but I don't recall very much of it... 2y
merelybookish @vivastory It's a bit of a swashbuckler tale set in India. I am enjoying it, more than I expected. But it's first in a trilogy. Not sure I will read the other two. 2y

janeycanuck I noticed last night that it wasn‘t dark by 6 - and it was such a nice realization! Lovely photo. 2y

Making a somewhat noncommittal start on my #bookspin book. This one has been on my shelf a few years now.
