This started out a little slow but picked up as it went along. I especially liked the guys in the “disgrace” and their cranky interactions with each other. Historians as investigators? Brilliant!
There are several references to food. (It is Paris, after all.) Nobody eats #pears 🍐but apples🍎 are mentioned.

Jolley was a prolific writer. She was in her 50s when her work was first published. Born in the UK, she moved to Western Australia in the 1950s. She died in 2007 😢.
I love her work & was fortunate to have her as lecturer at uni. I found this book on my shelf today when I was looking for #pears. There is a scene in it where she dances around a pear tree.
Now I‘m going to have the pear & blue cheese for my lunch 😋.
