Def sciencey but also super fascinating. So many incredible factoids and lab studies on all types of creatures. Absolutely widened my worldview.

A perfect book to start the new year. Rubin works through one of her senses at a time, trying to enjoy each one to the fullest. She visits the Met in NYC each day. She tries a meal at a restaurant where you are blindfolded. She takes a class on developing your sense of smell. She discovers the taste & visual cues that bring her joy. I know I‘ll be putting some of these tips into practice as I try to deepen my appreciation of the world around me.
#nonfiction2023. My usual goal is one nonfiction per month. Crushed it! I have a couple “slow but steady” reads that have turned into just slow. So my goal this year is to finish a couple nonfiction chunksters. And that‘s it. #nonfiction24
I'm on the fence about adding this to my library. It seems a little too pre-school for my audience. It's cute, though.
A little too flowery at times and def slightly dated, but still a really beautiful and fascinating delve into the beauty and insanity of living.
Read partially with grace. Found at mom's house.
This is really about mindfulness, tuning into each of our five senses and living in the present. The exercises Rubin did to tune into her senses won‘t be practical for everyone but you can adapt them to your life and circumstances.
“The mouse moral: Knowing in part may make a fine tale, but wisdom comes from seeing the whole.“
This book is a fable for many reasons. It is based on the Indian fable of the blind men and an elephant. It has personification where the mice behave like humans. The number seven is also very common in fables and it stands for each day of the week in this story. Also it has a moral that you cant just look at parts, you cant see until you see the whole picture.
The seven blind mice notice something new comes to their pond. Each day of the week each mouse goes and says its something different. The last mouse goes and finds out it is something that entails what each mouse said.
3 ⭐This book is an ode to Isamu, not a biography. If one reads this story, as a story, it is quite nice. It is about a child‘s view of wonder. If one is reading it as a biography about the artist Isamu, one will be highly disappointed. As there is very little, almost nothing about the artist. This is all about how the artist viewed life. It‘s an interesting read, but not one that readers would gravitate to over and over again.
